Position Details: Staff Accountant- Los Angeles, CA Location: 9045 Lincoln Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90045 (Hybrid 3days Onsite) Duration: 30- 90days Reports to: Director of Accounting and Audit Start Date | June 6th 2023 Pay rate : $30/hr. Job Description: The Staff Accountant applies an in-depth knowledge of accounting principles to review, analyze, reconcile, summarize, and report financial information. This position also assesses and redesigns financial services processes to optimize efficiency and technology investments. This position reports directly to the Director of Accounting and Audit. Core duties and responsibilities: (Essential functions, other tasks/expectations, along with percentages of time) · Receive and post cash/check/credit card transactions and perform related cashier functions including daily balancing of funds, credit card batches, and bank deposits, accurately, and adhering to cashiering policies and procedures. Reports discrepancies to the appropriate parties. · Posts and/or verifies entries to ledgers, logs, and files to update department records, banking activity, and/or accounting systems. Prepares a variety of business forms/documents (i.e., purchase requisitions, disbursement requests, honorarium agreements, independent contractor forms, etc.) Follows up to ensure timely processing and reviews them for accuracy and completeness. · Prepares bank deposits; maintains income records; monitors the collection of donations/payments to ensure that revenues and expenditures are properly accounted for and distributed to appropriate funds. · Post and process journal entries to ensure all business transactions are recorded timely. · Monitors, reviews, and verifies accounting records and transactions for accuracy, timeliness, and adequacy of supporting documentation. Ensures compliance with internal policies, agency rules and regulations, and generally accepted accounting principles. · Prepares reports and statements from available accounting data following prescribed formats, as needed. Reviews and analyzes reports for accuracy, problems, and trends and makes recommendations to upper management. · Identifies problems and interacts with internal and/or external contacts, as required, to correct deficiencies and/or discrepancies. Rejects and returns documentation as appropriate. · Reconciles accounts to the College's financial system. Researches and resolves problems and adjusts accordingly. Ensures supporting documentation exists for audit purposes. · Serves as a resource for funding agencies and/or other organizations to provide requested or required financial information and reports. Clarifies or research issues as necessary. · Functions as a backup for other Business Office staff as assigned. Required skills and education: (Non-negotiable; minimum requirements, skills, experience, certifications) · Bachelor's degree required · Combined experience/education can substitute for minimum education · A minimum of 3 years of work experience with strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles including fund accounting is required Preferred Skills And Experience: (Success factors or preferred attributes/competencies) · College degree in accounting preferred · Prior experience with Ellucian Banner, CashNet, Argos is preferred.
