Summary This position works under the direction of the Genetics Counselor. The Genetics Assistant will have involvement with the workings of a fast-paced clinic. The main role objective is to increase clinic efficiencies by relieving some of the Genetic Counselors’ workload. This is a temporary position expected to last one year. Evaluation of position extension due to business need will be determined at a later date.
Education
Bachelor's degree related to the medical/scientific field preferred
Preference given to candidates pursuing, or looking to pursue, an advanced degree in the field of Genetics
Essential Functions
Pull charts or pedigrees for upcoming patients
Utilization of the program Progeny including creating or updating pedigrees.
Update testing logs/ condition specific logs
Package and ship specimens
Complete test requisitions for upcoming patients
Complete basic consult notes as directed for final review by Genetics Counselor
Kit inventory and ordering genetic testing supplies
Contact labs regarding testing, billing, and/or logistical information
EPIC utilization such as Smart Phrases, start consult notes, and family letters as directed
Making copies, mailing information
Looking up variants in ClinVar
Literature search
Ability to stay organized while multi-tasking
Efficiently completes tasks and able to prioritize duties
Accepts, incorporates, and provides feedback
Willingly accepts other duties as assigned
Schedule This position is part-time, approximately two Mondays per month. The shift is 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
