    Genex Systems is looking for a Mechanical Engineering Technician to support the Center Maintenance Operations Engineering (CMOE) contract at NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, VA.

    Pressure re-certification technicians perform routine inspections on process piping systems and ground based pressure vessels based on government inspection standards and criteria. Additional job requirements and position responsibilities include:

    • Perform routine inspections of process piping and ground based pressure vessels based on government standards and criteria from national consensus codes such as the Process Piping Code ASME B31.3 and the Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC)
    • Perform nondestructive testing (NDT) including visual inspection (VT) and taking thickness measurements with UTT equipment
    • Create inspection reports that are submitted to client facilities
    • Perform field verification of system components and develop and/or update documentation of pressure systems. Types of documentation include inspection plans, isometric drawings, and weld maps
    • Perform research of pressurized components for verification of pressure rating.  Includes working with manufacturers/vendors and documenting communications in a contact report
    • Upkeep of electronic database with pressure systems information

    QUALIFICATIONS  U.S. Citizenship required. Two (2) years of college with courses in computer science, mathematics, or other related engineering courses, plus two (2) years of related engineering experience for a total of 4 years with some expertise in formulating data for presentation. Additional relevant education may be substituted for a portion of the experience. 

    • ASNT Level II certification and/or experience with NDE/NDT processes such as VT, MT, PT, UT, is a plus but not required
    • Experience with ultrasonic thickness testing (UTT) is a plus, but not required
    • Knowledge of piping and piping components is a plus, but not required
    • Drafting experience is a plus, but not required
    • Candidate must have excellent communication skills and writing skills. Must be able to multitask.

    Essential Functions

    WORK ENVIRONMENT Office environment. (75%) Test Environment- May be exposed to areas of high noise levels, hazardous propellants, explosives, chemicals and industrial facilities. Travel between facilities and test sites is required. (5%)

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Must have sufficient mobility to enter all areas of test facilities. Must be able to walk, stand, bend, twist and sit for extended periods as well as climb, crawl, and lift up to 35 lbs. (10%)

    EQUIPMENT AND MACHINES Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, fax, copier, etc.) (30%) Safety and Personal Protective Equipment (10%)

    ATTENDANCE Regular attendance mandatory (100%) Overtime/work outside normal schedule required (20%)

    OTHER ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS US Citizenship required. A valid driver's license is required. Must be able to work in a team atmosphere. Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety/risk hazard to the employee or others. Must be able to balance scope, schedule and budget to insure project success. The work environment requires the ability to cooperate and work with individuals at all levels of the company and the client. Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance as required.
