    Job Description

    CUSTOMER SERVICE ASSOCIATE

    REPORTS TO: CUSTOMER SERVICE SUPV.

    DEPARTMENT: CUSTOMER SERVICE

    FLSA STATUS: NON EXEMPT

    PAY RANGE: $18.16/HR – $22.70/HR

    GENERAL PURPOSE

    Responsible for performing various customer service duties and providing consistent, professional, customer service in compliance with District, state, and federal regulations. This position requires the ability to report to the Georgetown office on a rotation to Pawleys Island. The primary work location is in Georgetown.

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    THE FOLLOWING ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ARE REQUIRED AT ALL PAY GRADE LEVELS.

    · Provides high level of customer service in person, through proper telephone etiquette, and through correspondence

    · Demonstrates and provides knowledge of rates and policies related to customer service functions

    · Create inquiries and work orders related to customer needs and forwards to correct departments.

    · Operates computer, copier, fax machine, calculator, and other office equipment and performing basic maintenance

    · Maintains filing systems

    · Post payments, transfers, new taps, etc utilizing proper procedures and use of the computer payment system. Reconciles monies assigned to the drawer.

    · Initiates or makes changes to residential customer services including initiating new service, disconnects, transfers and new taps.

    · Utilizes computer systems to access customer account information to identify, research, and resolve customer issues.

    · Assist customers that require financial assistance through the Good Neighbor program.

    · Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards..

     

    OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    THE FOLLOWING OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES REQUIRED FOR CUSTOMER SERVICE ASSOCIATES AT ALL PAY GRADE LEVELS

    · May perform portions of the work of higher or lower classified positions, occasionally, as assigned.

    · Serves on various employee or other committees, as assigned

    · Performs related duties as assigned

     

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    · Operations, services, and activities of a water utility

    · Methods, procedures, practices, and terminology used in billing and financial record keeping work.

    · Basic computer skills including windows, Microsoft Word and Excel

    · Ability to interact professionally with internal and external customers.

    · Ability to conduct and account for monetary transactions

    · Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing

    · Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public;

    · Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions

    · Knowledge of office, public, and business procedures

     

    DESIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    · High school diploma or equivalent

    · 2 years of previous customer service experience

    · Ability to communicate in Spanish, desired
