    The Behavior Intervention Specialist is responsible for assisting in the coordination of behavioral services for people supported, as identified through close work with the person and their support team. Evaluates specific challenge areas and offers recommendations and positive approaches through written documents and direct interactions, to assist with behavior modification and development of new skills that will enhance the person’s quality of life. Provides direct supervision and consultation on the implementation of Behavior Support Plans, Medication Monitoring Plans and Behavior Guidelines.  Support across programs as assigned.

    Required Skills

     

    LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION

    • Ability to become SCIP-R Certified and able to perform all aspects of SCIP-R.
    • Obtain and maintain certification as a SCIP-R instructor, providing training agency-wide as assigned.
    • Have access to timely and reliable transportation to transport self to multiple sites.

     

    COMPUTER SKILLS

    • BASIC OUTLOOK skills as evidenced by creating and sending messages, working with address books, message handling, creating and using personal folders, scheduling appointments, working with meeting requests and managing tasks.

    • BASIC POWERPOINT skills as evidenced by the ability to create and save a presentation, add titles, edit and delete slides, reordering slides, applying slide masters, checking spelling, and adding clip art.

    • BASIC MICROSOFT WORD skills as evidenced by the ability to produce basic business letters and simple tables and charts; as well as check spelling, set tabs, change page orientation, sort, save, open and organize electronic files.

    • BASIC EXCEL skills as evidenced by the ability to use workbooks, create simple formulas, insert and delete data, create and edit charts, filter and sort lists, and format data.

     

    OTHER SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE

    • Requires excellent skills in observation, objectivity, sensitivity and tact.
    • Excellent communication skills including verbal and written. Must possess the ability to speak professionally and train others.
    • Be flexible to prioritize assignments and adapt to quickly changing needs.
    • Be a team player and form professional and cooperative relationships.
    • Have knowledge of community resources and advocacy.
    • As assigned, may include supervisory responsibilities for behavior technician.

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Standing 25% of the time. Walking 25% of the time.  Sitting 50% of the time.
    • Occasionally required to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, push, pull or lift.
    • Work is primarily sedentary in nature, and required to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally.
    • Close visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned, or perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading.
    • Individual may be exposed to infectious diseases.

    Required Experience

     

    MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

    Master’s Degree in clinical or treatment field of psychology, social work, school psychology, or NYS license in Mental Health Counseling or National Board certification in behavior analysis (BCBA). Two to three years’ experience working with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities preferred. Training and experience in assessment techniques and behavior support plan development preferred.
