Job Description
Our company is a well-established, family-owned construction company in the Bay Area and we are seeking a full-time Project Engineer for our North Bay regional office. This is an entry level role for a candidate with past project management academic and internship experience. The ideal candidate will have a general understanding of heavy civil construction including earthwork, paving, underground utilities and/or concrete work.
The Project Engineer position is an integral part of the Project Management team and assists the PM and Field Supervisors with the planning and daily execution of the construction project to help ensure each project is completed under budget and early. They are very involved from the conceptual development stage through final construction and collaborate to coordinate the planning, budgeting and scheduling of multiple projects at one time.
Key responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Function as a point of contact with subcontractor's, field, and office
- Create and review baseline schedule with the project team to ensure goals will be achieved
- Ensure 3-week look ahead schedule is resource loaded and completed timely
- Support and assist PMT and Finance with cost tracking, project billings and sub-pays, and reconcile any discrepancies
- Review production analysis report daily for accurate cost reporting, provide detailed explanation for job losses which impact overall project
- Ensure proper coordination of new purchase orders (PO’s) and sub-contractors change order (SCO’s)
- Identify potential project impacts and propose solutions
- Identify field issues and suggest potential alternates to reoccurring issues
- Assist in preparing documentation and correspondence to clients pertaining to contracts, project issues, and status
- Develop and maintain a good relationship with the owner, and subcontractors
- Interpret complex laws, regulations, and/or policies
- Review contract conditions; and assist to ensure compliance with all contract terms
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field or equivalent preferred.
- Practical construction knowledge with the ability to read blueprints and plans
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Plan Grid, HCSS, P6.
- QSP certified a plus
- Ability to manage and prioritize tasks/projects with little supervision, a results-oriented individual who is resourceful and creative in overcoming challenges and identifying necessary actions to execute on individual and team objectives
- Ability to work with attention to detail in job costs and budgets
- Ability to work with others and foster a collaborative environment
- Ability to understand all safety requirements and take the necessary precautions
- Demonstrates solid presentation skills and verbal/written skills, ability to communicate effectively and work productively with others
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills
- Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm
- Ability to work independently and as a member of various teams and committees
- Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Ability to understand any and all safety requirements and cautions
- Ability to effectively communicate with people at all levels and from various backgrounds
- Bilingual skills a plus
- Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace
