Job Description
Girl Vow seeks a Program Assistant with leadership ability to join our compassionate team at a gender-focused mentoring program for girls/lgbtq youth impacted by foster care and the juvenile justice system to manage and lead workshops!
Required Skills:
Understand, communicate, and promote the purpose and Girl Vow’s mission to support justice-involved girls and women/lgbtq youth.
Facilitate life skills workshops that address issues of domestic violence, bereavement, recidivism, etc.
Participate in weekly meetings, discussions, workshops, campaigns to move the mission of GV forward.
Set the tone for the appropriate behavior of the group through empathy, humor, and openness.
Acknowledge GV’s programming and our ability to provide an opportunity for group members to have access to resources and other services.
Moderate sharing during group discussion to keep the group within appropriate limits.
Assess when a group member needs more help than the group can provide and refer that person to the appropriate staff.
Responsible for occasional court reporting, testimony, and advocacy.
Be a traveling ambassador for Girl Vow and exude leadership skills.
Compassion for incarcerated, child welfare, impoverished, or justice-involved participants
Good listening skills and excellent oral and written communication skills
Lead small meetings/workshops
Ability to suspend judgment while trying to understand from the participant’s point of view
Strong writing and communication skills, maintain accurate records and can follow through.
Ability to use humor while showing genuine care, professionalism, and compassion
Willingness to accept and abide by Girl Vow policies including completion of an application, signing a Conflict of Interest Statement, a Confidentiality Agreement, Support Group Affiliation Agreement, and Attendance Policy.
Bachelors Degree or three years experience
