ABOUT GIRL VOW INC.
GIRL VOW, INC. IS A CITY-WIDE NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION FOUNDED ON THE PRINCIPLE OF GENDER-FOCUSED INTENSIVE MENTORSHIP FOR GIRLS AGED 12 TO 24, IMPACTED BY FOSTER CARE, JUVENILE JUSTICE, AND POVERTY. THE PURPOSE OF THE ORGANIZATION IS TO PROVIDE GIRLS WITH THE FOUNDATION AND SUPPORT THAT THEY LACK THROUGH COMPREHENSIVE INTENSIVE MENTORSHIP, CRISIS MANAGEMENT AND AFTERCARE, LIFE SKILLS WORKSHOPS, AND LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES. WE WORK WITH GIRLS AT ANY STAGE OF THE JUVENILE JUSTICE PROCESS AND WE ARE CURRENTLY IN SECURE AND NON-SECURE FACILITIES THROUGHOUT NYC INCLUDING RIKERS ISLAND.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
THE GIRL VOW COORDINATOR IS THE VISIONARY BEHIND THE PROGRAMS AND THE ORGANIZATION. THE PC WILL SUPPORT ALL PROGRAMMING UNDER THE GIRL VOW PORTFOLIO AND NURTURING THE EXPANSION OF THE PROJECTS. PC WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
PROJECT & BUDGET COORDINATION: DEVELOP A WORK PLAN IN ACCORDANCE WITH PROJECT GOALS, OBJECTIVES, AND FUNDING LIMITATIONS TO IMPLEMENT TRAINING FOR SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY-BASED ORGANIZATION STAFF AND SUPPORT PARENT/STUDENT ENGAGEMENT PROGRAMS AT SCHOOL SITES. FACILITATE TRAINING, WORKSHOPS, SEMINARS, MEETINGS AND/OR CONFERENCES; ENSURE LEARNING OBJECTIVES ARE CLEAR AND MEASURABLE; COORDINATE LOGISTICS, SCHEDULING AND STAFF AND PARTICIPANT COMMUNICATION. FUNDRAISING AND BUDGETING EXPERIENCE; ABILITY TO ANALYZE AND PREPARE FINANCIAL AND STATISTICAL RECORDS.
FACILITATE COMMUNICATION AND PARTNERSHIP ENGAGEMENT. CREATE SCHEDULES, END-OF-TERM CALENDARS FOR FINAL ASSESSMENTS, ORAL PRESENTATIONS, AND FINAL PAPERS, ORDER SUPPLIES, AND ARRANGE SPACE FOR ALL PROGRAMS. OVERSEE SOCIAL MEDIA STRATEGY AND ASSESS ONLINE ENGAGEMENT AND IMPACT.
FACILITATE PARTICIPANT ENGAGEMENT SESSIONS AND PUBLIC SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS. SUPPORT THE PROGRAM DIRECTOR MAINTAIN ORGANIZATIONAL PARTNER ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITIES BY DEVELOPING AND TRACKING MEMORANDUMS OF AGREEMENTS, RECRUITMENT AND ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES, AND MANAGE THE COLLECTION OF PARTICIPANT DOCUMENTATION AS NEEDED
TRACK PROJECT DATA AND DEVELOP FUNDER REPORTS AS NEEDED OR REQUESTED.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: LEAD IN THE PLANNING, COORDINATION, AND IMPLEMENTATION OF TRAININGS FOR SCHOOL STAFF AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS AROUND PARENT ENGAGEMENT STRATEGIES AND CURRICULAR-BASED PROGRAMS.
CONTENT DEVELOPMENT: DEVELOP AND FACILITATE WORKSHOPS, SEMINARS, MEETINGS OR CONFERENCES ON PARENT ENGAGEMENT INFORMATION TO A VARIETY OF AUDIENCES, INCLUDING SCHOOL STAFF, PARENTS, PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS AND/OR PUBLIC OFFICIALS. DEVELOP, COMPILE AND WRITE LESSONS, COMMUNICATION, PROMOTIONAL LITERATURE, AND/OR PROGRAM TOOLS FOR DISTRIBUTION AND/OR IMPLEMENTATION WITH GENDER-FOCUSED CURRICULUM-BASED PROGRAMS.
OUTREACH: UNDERSTAND, COMMUNICATE, AND PROMOTE THE PURPOSE OF GIRL VOW’S MISSION TO SUPPORT JUSTICE-INVOLVED GIRLS AND WOMEN/LGBTQ YOUTH. UTILIZE OUTREACH STRATEGIES TO INCREASE ENGAGEMENT AND RETENTION AMONGST PARTICIPANTS. BE A TRAVELING AMBASSADOR FOR GIRL VOW BY INCREASING THE ORGANIZATION’S VISIBILITY AND PARTNERSHIPS. WORK ON ADVOCACY CAMPAIGNS
BUILD AGENCY NETWORK AND MAINTAIN POSITIVE BUSINESS RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHER EMPLOYEES, COMMUNITY AND GOVERNMENT AGENCIES, AND THE PUBLIC.
DEVELOP AND MAINTAIN ORGANIZATIONAL DATABASE AND ASSIST IN THE DEVELOPMENT AND DISTRIBUTION OF ORGANIZATION MATERIALS INCLUDING NEWSLETTERS, ADVERTISEMENTS, AND SOCIAL MEDIA.
GROUP FACILITATION: FACILITATE DISCUSSIONS THAT ARE RELEVANT TO THE PARTICIPANT’S NEEDS AND CONCERNS, INCLUDING SURVEYING PARTICIPANTS WHEN NECESSARY, DEVELOPING TRAINING CONTENT, AND EVALUATING SERVICE DELIVERY AND OUTCOMES
RESEARCH AND IDENTIFY LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT TRENDS ALIGNED WITH THE NEEDS OF PARTICIPANTS AND GOALS OF GIRL VOW INC.
CREATE SAFE AND TRANSPARENT SPACES TO DISCUSS SENSITIVE TOPICS RELATED TO EXPERIENCES OF GENDER BIAS, INTIMATE PARTNER AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, BEREAVEMENT, RECIDIVISM, TRAUMA, AND POVERTY
IDENTIFY WHEN PARTICIPANTS NEED ADDITIONAL SUPPORT AND REFER THE PARTICIPANT TO APPROPRIATE STAFF INCLUDING BEING KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT RELEVANT RESOURCES AND SERVICES PROVIDED BY OTHER AGENCIES.
OVERALL DEPARTMENT RESPONSIBILITIES: PARTICIPATE IN TRAINING AND OTHER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES TO STAY ABREAST OF BEST PRACTICES, TRENDS, RESEARCH, AND OTHER INFORMATION THAT WOULD SUPPORT QUALITY AND EFFECTIVE PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION. ASSIST WITH GRANT APPLICATIONS AND PROGRAM REPORTS, AS NEEDED OR REQUESTED. OVERSEE INTERNS AND PARTICIPANT ENGAGEMENT. PERFORM OTHER ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES AS NEEDED.
QUALIFICATIONS: MINIMUM OF A BACHELOR’S DEGREE IN EDUCATION, SOCIOLOGY, SOCIAL WORK, OR RELATED FIELD REQUIRED. MINIMUM THREE YEARS OF DEMONSTRATED EXPERIENCE IN PROGRAM COORDINATION. EXPERIENCE WORKING IN LOW-INCOME COMMUNITIES, SCHOOLS, AND/OR COMMUNITY-BASED (NONPROFIT) AGENCIES. CLEAR AND SIGNIFICANT EXPERIENCE FACILITATING WORKSHOPS/TRAINING USING ADULT LEARNING TECHNIQUES. EXPERIENCE IN ADMINISTRATION. ATTENTION TO CULTURAL COMPETENCE IN ALL MANNER OF FAMILY AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT. WILLINGNESS TO WORK WEEKENDS AND EVENINGS AND TRAVEL OCCASIONALLY.
REQUIRED:
BACHELOR’S DEGREE IN SOCIAL WORK, CRIMINAL JUSTICE, EDUCATION OR RELATED FIELD.
ABILITY TO REASON LOGICALLY AND USE SOUND JUDGMENT.
CAPABLE OF PERFORMING PROGRAM EVALUATION FUNCTIONS.
MUST POSSESS GOOD ORGANIZATIONAL ABILITIES AND THE ABILITY TO PERFORM MULTIPLE PROJECTS. UNDERSTANDS SOCIAL MEDIA AND CAN UTILIZE IT TO ADVANCE THE ORGANIZATION. MUST BE ABLE TO PRIORITIZE AND PROVIDE ATTENTION TO DETAIL. CAPABLE OF ANALYZING AND RELATING DATA TO COMPREHENSIBLE PRESENTATIONS AND MATERIALS. A HIGH DEGREE OF CREATIVITY IS REQUIRED, WITH THE ABILITY TO ANALYZE THE VISUAL IMPACT OF INFORMATIONAL MATERIALS. COMPASSION FOR YOUTH IN FOSTER CARE, INCARCERATED, IMPOVERISHED OR JUSTICE-INVOLVED. UNDERSTANDING AND COMMITMENT TO WORKING IN LOW-INCOME COMMUNITIES OF COLOR. STRONG FACILITATION SKILLS TO LEAD SMALL MEETINGS INCLUDING CREATING VIRTUAL WORKSHOP CONTENT. EXPERIENCE BUILDING NETWORKS AND PARTNERSHIPS AMONGST ORGANIZATIONS; RELATIONSHIP BUILDING; IDENTIFYING STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS AND ALLIANCES. EXPERIENCE INTERACTING WITH GOVERNMENT AND AGENCY OFFICIALS. COMPUTER SKILLS INCLUDING MICROSOFT OFFICE SUITE, SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGEMENT, AND DATABASE MANAGEMENT. ACTIVE LISTENING SKILLS; EXCELLENT ORAL AND WRITTEN COMMUNICATION SKILLS. ABILITY TO WORK INDEPENDENTLY, CREATE WORK PLANS, AND DEMONSTRATE ATTENTION TO DETAIL.
