    MAJOR FUNCTION: The Instructional Systems Designer is a grant-funded position housed within the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice office in Tallahassee and will report to the Supervisor of Curriculum & Evaluation Development. The Instructional Systems Designer is primarily responsible for conducting instructional systems design consistent with the methods, procedures and best practice for using a systems approach to designing competency-based instruction. The Instructional Systems Designer also ensures that instructional skills and content are accurate, relevant and worthwhile with respect to current law, rule, policy and best practice, and that instructional design intervention, activities, and projects are coordinated, consistent and integrated, as appropriate, with other juvenile justice training activities and products. The position also designs assessment and evaluation strategies and instruments, alternative instructional delivery strategies, and instructional materials for legally defensible certification training.

     

    MINIMUM TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:  A master’s degree in Instructional Systems, Instructional Technology, Curriculum and Instruction or a related field and two (2) years of experience in curriculum development using the systematic process of instructional design. Or a bachelor’s degree in Instructional Systems, Instructional Technology, Curriculum and Instruction, or related fields and three (3) years of experience in curriculum development using the systematic process of instructional design.

     

    SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS WILL DEMONSTRATE THE FOLLOWING:  Knowledge of the theory base and current trends and issues relevant to the field of instructional systems design (ISD) (inclusive of front-end analysis, instructional analysis and design, instructional development, formative evaluation and revision, production, implementation, learning transfer, course maintenance, and summative evaluation). Knowledge of the working definition of a systems approach to training and competency-based instruction. Knowledge of statewide certification programs in public agencies. Knowledge of current and emerging trends and issues related to performance improvement, change management and work group management. Knowledge of current and emerging alternative instructional delivery technologies. Knowledge of current and emerging communication/productivity technologies; Knowledge of current and emerging strategies/technologies for project management and work group management; Knowledge of trends, issues and strategies for accomplishing assessment and evaluation activities; Knowledge of procedural and legal requirements for licensing and certification training. Knowledge of the mission, legislative mandate, structure and basic operating procedures in public agencies. Ability to determine work priorities, assign work, and insure proper completion of work assignment.  Ability to demonstrate effective leadership and management skills. Ability to demonstrate effective project management skills for multiple, concurrent assessment, performance improvement, curriculum, and evaluation projects. Ability to work and interact cooperatively with subject matter experts (SMEs), project advisory team members and other project participants to obtain comprehensive stakeholder input, to accurately incorporate stakeholder consensus into training material and to facilitate effective stakeholder ownership in training solutions. Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques. Ability to evaluate instructional products to ensure the practical application of a systematic approach to designing competency-based instruction.  Ability to ensure that curriculum activities and products are consistent with the methods, procedures, and best practice standards established for the juvenile justice training system and instructional design methodology. Ability to proofread and evaluate instructional products for systematic design concerns and adult learning principles. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to demonstrate effective and engaging presentation skills; Ability to effectively perform in both an independent and team working environment. Ability to successfully manage changes inherent in a dynamic state environment. Ability to demonstrate intermediate PC computer skills in Microsoft Office desktop publishing programs. Ability to travel, primarily in-state.

    LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION

    • Valid NYS driver’s license required. Must have access to timely and reliable transportation to transport self and individual.
    • Must maintain current required certifications as designated by the agency including but not limited to: AMAP, SCIP-R, First Aid/CPR

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, reach, push, pull, lift, climb and kneel
    • Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently.
    • Use medical equipment such as Hoyer, SARA lifts, push/pull wheelchairs and carts (grocery)
    • Housecleaning duties such as laundry, vacuuming, cleaning showers/tubs, dishes, taking out garbage, yard work and preparing meals, shoveling snow, cleaning room

    WORKING CONDITIONS, POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

    • This position works in a residential setting that is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts as well as holiday, weekends and work during inclement weather will be required.
    • Must be flexible and dependable; may be required to work overtime as necessary.
