    POSITION SUMMARY:

    We are currently in search of an HVDC O&M Manager. As the Manager overseeing the Operations and Maintenance team, you will have a pivotal role in ensuring the success of the project. Your responsibilities will encompass the supervision of installation, commissioning, maintenance, and engineering tasks related to the HVDC Converter Station and cable systems linking New York City to Hydro Quebec’s network.

    Your primary duties will involve managing day-to-day operations, maintenance, and engineering activities at the HVDC converter station. This includes collaboration with OEMs, overseeing installation, commissioning, and transitioning to operational phases. Additionally, you will contribute to the development of maintenance, operational, environmental, health, and safety protocols during commissioning, as well as the implementation of a preventative maintenance program. You will play a crucial role in overseeing continuous improvement training for site personnel and working closely with management to develop and manage the NERC compliance program.

    JOB FUNCTION:

    • Lead a team of operators/technicians and HVDC engineers to achieve the maximum possible availability of the HVDC project for commercial operations.
    • Ensure that all required maintenance (both preventative and corrective) is performed in a timely fashion.
    • Use trends and data to turn the time-based preventative maintenance program into a reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) program.
    • Support the engineering staff with troubleshooting of faults and trips at the converter station.
    • Communicate effectively with outside parties.
    • Provide technical training and training opportunities to the O&M staff.
    • Provide career development and guidance to the O&M staff.
    • Develop and refine the O&M budget on a three-year, look-ahead rolling basis.
    • Predict capital expenditures based on equipment failure trends, site availability improvement, and regulatory requirements.
    • Provide technical expertise and input to support holistic project schedules, stakeholder updates, and efforts related to project regulatory, public, or government affairs.
    • Effectively plan scheduled outages and manage external resource requirements as needed.
    • Track O&M team performance and develop a continuous improvement plan.
    • Work with a NERC compliance specialist to develop, document, and comply with all applicable NERC standards.

    EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

    • Operations and maintenance of an HVDC converter station/transmission project
    • Managing a diverse, cross-functional team in a challenging technical environment
    • Auditing procedures and risk management
    • Developing, implementing, and maintaining processes, procedures, and evidence
    • Technical Report writing
    • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline (transmission or power systems is a plus). Alternative degrees in combination with specialized experience and/or certifications may be considered.
    • A graduate degree in Electrical Engineering and/or Management is considered a plus.
    • 5 years or more of experience in the HVDC industry
    • Procedures and programs required to take an HVDC project from EPC and into commercial operations.
    • HVDC systems and equipment (specific knowledge of Hitachi Energy MACH controls is a plus).
    • Familiarity with Power Electronics, HVDC systems, Protection and Control, SCADA, and associated equipment (FACTS knowledge is also considered a plus).
    • NERC Standards and the programs/evidence needed to ensure compliance with applicable requirements.
    • Applicable industry standards such as IEC, IEEE and CIGRE
