    GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Assist Meter Setter II in digging and backfilling holes, installing water meters, meter boxes, meter vaults, stopcocks and various meter fittings and supplies.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    1. Perform various tasks utilizing tools such as pipe wrenches, crescent wrenches, shovels, hammers, sledgehammers, stopcock keys, and valve keys.

    2. Assist in operating drilling and tapping machines and make taps on pressurized mains. Tap sizes range from ¾” to 2”. Tie in corporation cock and copper and connect to meter yoke or copper setter.

    3. Assist in repairing leaks inside the meter box.

    4. Assist in operating main valves, tapping valves, and stopcocks.

    5. Assist with fire services and domestic services vault.

    6. Load and unload meters on trucks.

    7. Locate, uncover and clean around meter boxes and vaults.

    8. Assist in setting, raising, lowering, and replacing meter boxes.

    9. Assist in changing, setting, and removing water meters.

    10. Excavate and remove abandoned meter boxes using a sledgehammer, clay spade or compressed air-powered jackhammer and fill the resulting hole with proper backfill.

    11. Keep assigned vehicle clean and report all mechanical problems. Maintain a valid driver’s license.

    12. Adhere to all traffic laws and safety policies and procedures when driving company vehicles.

    13. Work an on-call rotating schedule outside the regular schedule on a rotating basis to support business continuity when responding to emergencies.

    14. Perform all work safely in accordance with established safety policies and procedures. Comply with all safety and health standards and guidelines issued by management.

    15. Perform other duties as assigned.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education:

    High school diploma or equivalent is required.

    Experience:

    Six (6) months of related work experience, including machines and field equipment, construction, pipefitting, map reading, and basic math.

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

    · Valid driver’s license required
