    Examples of Responsibilities of a Direct Support Professional but not limited to: Communicate professionally with families and your team. You will be working with young adults and older adults with special needs/intellectual disabilities. You will be scheduled with your clients to support them in daily living skills, learning how to be independent (they live on their own or with family members in some cases) You will help them with their goals, finding a job, making a budget for the month and sticking to it, maintaining good hygiene habits, etc..

    Your main role is providing direct care to those with intellectual and developmental disabilities. By working with them you will have access to and will need to utilize Individual Support Plans to assess an individual's needs to help with move towards accomplishing their specific goals. Ensure client safety and maintain a safe environment. Encourages self-help activities.

    Report changes in client’s condition or family situation to administrators and supervisors. Communication is key in home care and when providing direct care to individuals who have intellectual disabilities. You are required to document and communicate what has transpired on your shifts so that quality care is given.

    Accompanies clients to scheduled appointments and transports clients or runs errands with clients. Develop and maintain a better quality of life for all individuals served.
