  • Responsibilities

    We are looking for an experienced Senior Staff Accountant to round out our existing dedicated team of support staff and help us improve our processes, efficiencies and outcomes.

    The person in this role will be primarily responsible for the revenue reconciliation, posting and analysis on a daily and monthly basis. Additional responsibilities will include; reconciling account balances and bank statements, maintaining general ledger and preparing month-end close procedures. The successful Sr. Staff Accountant combines excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyze financial reports and forecasts. The ideal candidate has also experience collaborating with a team of accountants, support staff, internal customers and leaders of the organization.

    Work Environment: Gym Management Services is the support company that provides management and administrative services to the Gold's Gym SoCal Group. We are an exciting, growing and dynamic company committed to the success of the gyms we support. The Gold's Gym SoCal Group has been in existence for over 30 years and has a strong name in the fitness industry. Currently the Gold's Gym SoCal Group is made up of 16 Gold's Gyms that are separate entities. The group plans to add 2-3 gyms per year for the foreseeable future and we need talented and committed individuals with vision and a commitment to the strength of the group and the well-being company, the gym members and fellow team members.

    Responsibilities

    Verify, allocate, post and reconcile revenue on a daily basis

    Produce error-free accounting reports and present their results

    General accounting functions including accruals, prepaid and amortization, recording journal entries, account reconciliations preparation and fixed assets

    Accurately prepare complex accruals, journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations as part of the monthly, quarterly and annual close process

    Analyze financial information and summarize financial status

    Spot errors and suggest ways to improve efficiency and results

    Provide technical support and advice on within the company

    Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures

    Participate in financial the financial forecast and budgeting process

    Provide input into department’s goal setting process

    Assist in preparing financial statements and other reports of metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs)

    Assist preparation of federal, state and local tax filings, as well as sales and use tax

    Support month-end and year-end close process

    Participate in ERP and other system upgrades or conversions

    Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls

    Ensure compliance with GAAP principles

    Liaise with our Analyst, Assistant Controller and CFO to improve financial procedures

    Requirements

    Proven experience as a financial controller, accounting supervisor, chief or senior accountant

    Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures

    In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

    Awareness of business trends

    Strong familiarity with financial accounting statements

    Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process

    Hands-on experience with accounting software packages, like Sage or Dynamics GP

    Advanced MS Excel skills including Vlookups and pivot tables

    Accuracy and attention to detail

    Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills

    BS degree in Accounting, Finance or relevant field. Associates degree will be acceptable with proven related experience
