    Green Garden Country Club, a premier 45-hole golf facility in Frankfort, IL, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head Mechanic to lead our equipment maintenance program. With three distinct courses – the championship Blue and Gold 18-hole layouts, and the unique 9-hole Links course – our commitment to pristine playing conditions is paramount.     The Role:

    As the Head Mechanic, you will be responsible for the comprehensive maintenance, repair, and overall management of all golf course equipment. This is a critical leadership role that directly impacts the quality of our courses and the efficiency of our operations. You will work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent to support our agronomic goals and maintain our reputation for excellence.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Equipment Management: Oversee and execute the complete maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of all golf course equipment, including gasoline, diesel, and electric-powered machinery (e.g., mowers, utility vehicles, tractors, sprayers, small engines, grinders, etc.).

    • Preventative Maintenance: Develop, implement, and rigorously manage a proactive preventative maintenance schedule to maximize equipment lifespan, minimize downtime, and ensure peak operational readiness.

    • Troubleshooting & Diagnostics: Expertly diagnose complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues, providing efficient and effective resolutions.

    • Shop Management: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe maintenance facility, adhering to all health and safety regulations.

    • Inventory & Budget: Manage inventory of parts, tools, and supplies. Order necessary components from approved suppliers, track expenses, and contribute to budget planning.

    • Team Leadership: Potentially lead and train assistant mechanics or maintenance staff on proper equipment operation, daily care, and safety protocols.

    • Communication: Maintain open and consistent communication with the Golf Course Superintendent regarding equipment status, repair needs, and capital improvement recommendations.

    • Quality Assurance: Ensure all cutting units (reels and rotary blades) are precisely sharpened, adjusted, and calibrated to achieve the highest quality of cut on all playing surfaces.

    • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and detailed records of all equipment maintenance, repairs, and service history.

    Qualifications:

    • Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive experience as an Equipment Technician, Equipment Supervisor, or Head Mechanic, with a strong preference for golf course-specific experience.

    • Proven expertise in the maintenance and repair of a wide range of golf course maintenance equipment, including gasoline, diesel, and hydraulic systems.

    • Proficiency in grinding equipment and proper reel and bed knife grinding techniques.

    • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.

    • Excellent organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.

    • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and lead a team effectively.

    • Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices related to equipment operation and maintenance.

    • Valid driver's license required.

    • Relevant technical certifications (e.g., mechanical, electrical, welding) are a plus.

    • Basic understanding of golf course operations and the game of golf is preferred.
