  • Responsibilities

    The Durable Medical Equipment (DME) Tech facilitates the delivery, assembly, setup arrangement and maintenance of equipment for participants and monitors supplies and equipment usage. Responsible for complying with all Centers for Medicaid & Medicare Services (CMS) and Program for All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) regulations pertaining to the ordering and issuance of participant Durable Medical Equipment. Supports organizational equipment and supply needs and participates in the multi-disciplinary team. Reports to the DME Supervisor.

    Responsibilities:

    1. Confirms orders that are received from Bienvivir physicians and nurses for participant Durable Medical Equipment.
    2. Reviews DME orders to ensure all necessary information is included and contacts clinic or MD for order clarification and/or amendments as needed.
    3. Documents DME referrals in claims management system and maintain communication with Finance department regarding discrepancies and billing issues.
    4. Assist with the delivery and set up of DME equipment from the support center to participant’s homes, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities.
    5. Responsible for maintenance and repairs of participant DME both at the centers and at the participant’s home. Checks and maintains the repair logs.
    6. Instructs participant and family on safe and proper use of DME equipment at home.
    7. Coordinates with family and assists with the removal of DME from the participant’s home upon disenrollment of participant, transfer of participant into permanent supervised living, or death.
    8. Assists with the deliveries of medical supplies to the centers.
    9. Assists with maintaining DME inventory and Bienvivir medical supplies at support center. Notifies DME supervisor at appropriate intervals when inventory is low.
    10. Conducts routine center and home visits to verify the delivery of supplies and equipment, and performs periodic audits of supplies and equipment. Reports any discrepancies or issues to DME Supervisor.
    11. Maintains a record of identified participant supplies and equipment for monitoring.
    12. Works with supervisors and managers and provides recommendations regarding any supplies and equipment issues.
    13. Maintains warehouse area used for DME, medical supplies, and miscellaneous storage clean, safe and organized.
    14. Responsible for the cleaning and proper disinfection of all DME equipment.
    15. Reviews DME databases and provides documentation of DME referrals, home visits, audits, and accuracy of supply and equipment utilization.
    16. Attends morning meetings to provide updates to multi-disciplinary team on any participant issues or concerns.
    17. Attends mandatory in-services and department meetings.
    18. Provides the DME Supervisor a summary of any concerns or issues that have occurred throughout the course of the work day.
    19. Follows personal safety and infection control guidelines.
    20. Other duties as assigned by DME Supervisor.

    Required Skills Required Experience

    1. High school diploma or equivalent.
    2. Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age with five years’ experience of continuous driving experience.
    3. Valid and current Class C driver’s license and automobile insurance coverage.
    4. Basic knowledge of medical supplies and durable medical equipment.
    5. Basic understanding and appreciation of the elderly.
    6. Knowledge and ability to apply appropriate body mechanics.
    7. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
    8. Possesses interpersonal skills to work collectively and communicate effectively with staff, supervisors, and management.
    9. Possesses strong organizational skills.
    10. Ability to work with and adapt to multidisciplinary team approach.
    11. Ability to use PC’s and computer software and programs, such as Microsoft Word and Excel and DME databases.
    12. Ability to use office equipment, such as the telephone, calculator, fax machine and copy machine.
    13. Ability to work with minimal direct supervision.
    14. Ability to lift up to 100 pounds.
  • Qualifications
