    Job Summary:

As the Farm-to-Table Gardener for Goodstone Inn & Restaurant, my responsibilities include the overall maintenance and care of the landscape, grounds, and garden and the overall welfare of the poultry and livestock. Responsible for managing Grounds Staff, including Full Employment Cycle, training, and delegating jobs to effective completion. Managerial capability to prioritize daily, weekly, and seasonal tasks and to coordinate these tasks effectively with faculty and staff. Accountable for managing subcontractors on the property and procuring competitive bids to address maintenance issues.

    Essential Functions

    Plan and execute crop planting, harvesting, and rotation schedules, including working with the Executive Chef on Farm to Table cuisine.

    Assist in executing any farmers' market strategies for the Inn, including packaging, pricing, and recording.

    Execute landscape planning and design based on climate and seasons for the interior and exterior of the property.

    Evaluate and implement innovative farming practices for increased yield.

    Develop maintenance procedures and ensure implementation.

    Allocate workload and supervise staff.

    Carry out routine inspections of the facilities to proactively identify and resolve issues.

    Ensure proper management of livestock and poultry (chicken, sheep, goats, mules, llama). Responsible for egg production and ensuring the log of all eggs “sold” to the kitchen, as well as monitoring and maintaining livestock health and welfare.

    Act as primary contact with Cattle subcontractor; plan entrance into cow/calf operation and expand other livestock operations at Goodstone at the behest of the owner. Responsible for fence and gate repair on property, in cooperation with Farm Tenant. Monitor Farm lease and ensure Snake Hill Farm adheres to forestry management and land use plans. Update and report to the state accordingly

    Coordinate with the housekeeping manager to facilitate rodent and pest control around farms and cottages.

    Operate heavy equipment (i.e., tractor) when needed for various projects.

    Responsible for snow removal efforts in cooperation with the Grounds team.

    Supervise the operation of the chainsaw and log splitter for cutting firewood for guest houses.

    Assist other department staff with requests and needs to complete guest satisfaction (escorting guests to canoes for canoe rides, delivering bikes to guest cottages, and farm tours as needed for guest services.

    Assist with loading and unloading power equipment, tools, materials, and garden debris daily from Company vehicles.

    Preferred Education and Experience:

    Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Farm Management, or equivalent experience

    Knowledge of crop and livestock care, agricultural machinery, and modern farming practices is required

    Familiarity with agricultural regulations and environmental sustainability practices.

    High school or equivalent

    Outstanding organizational and leadership abilities

    Job Type: Full-Time: Must be able to work a varied schedule, including AM, Mid, and PM shifts, weekdays, weekends, holidays

    Supervisory Responsibility: This position manages all department employees and is responsible for the performance management and hiring of the employees within that department.

    Work Environment:

    This job operates in a professional hospitality environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

    Must be able to work effectively in a stressful environment, communicate with others, and effectively interact with guests

    Must be able to accept constructive criticism from supervisors
