    Job Description

    Function: To safely pickup and transport donations from homes and business to our retail locations. 

    Essential Duties: 1.    Ensures World Class donor and customer service by rendering polite, responsive and courteous service to donors and issues receipts or leaves door card in absence of donor. 2.    Drives a vehicle in a safe and efficient manner, complying with all state, federal and local driving laws.     3.    Follows a daily dispatched schedule and follows route in a timely manner. 4.    Collects and transports donated goods from private homes, businesses, donation stations and other areas to designated processing sites.     5.    Monitors and services truck for proper operation, daily, informing the transportation manager of necessary repairs or safety hazards.          6.    Monitors and orders first aid supplies and truck equipment from the transportation manager, as needed. 7.    Unloads and transports donations into the store production area or sales floor, as requested by store personnel.     8.    Operates a cell phone and communicates his/her location, regularly.     9.    Maintains a clean and hazard free truck, using chocks when parking and safety straps to secure donations inside truck.     10.    Keeps proper equipment in truck, as outlined in the transportation manual.     11.    May accompany and grade truck driver applicants in test drives and trains new drivers and helpers. 12.    Ensures good stewardship of all donations, through proper handling and processing of incoming donation flow in and out of the store in accordance with GES policies and procedures.   13.    Minimizes accidents and Workers Compensation claims by making sure that safety and accident reporting standards are followed and preventive measures are taken. 14.    Performs assigned duties within the framework of our Mission, Vision, Core Values and Guiding Principles. 15.    Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or VP of Donor Operations.  16.    Acts as a positive role model for employees in all aspects of professional performance. 17.    Regular attendance is required as outlined in Goodwill Easterseals’ attendance policy.

    Skills, knowledge and abilities: (these are required to enable job holder to perform the essential functions of the job). 1.    Must be able to interact cordially and productively with a variety of people.                               2.    Must be able to market Goodwill Easter Seals and explain the mission to the general public.                   3.    Must be able to take initiative and work well with little supervision. 4.    Must be able to read, write and communicate clearly in English. 5.    Must be able to maintain an effective working relationship with, and among fellow employees. 6.    Must be able to work a flexible schedule, on short notice, including weekends, holidays and regularly in excess of 40 hours per week. 7.    Must be able to see and read street signs and signals. 8.    Ability to function in a hectic work environment with occasional periods of high stress. 9.    Must have a valid driver’s license for at least 3 years, must be 21 years of age and be insurable through the agency’s insurance carrier.

    Experience and Education Requirements: •    High School diploma or GED preferred.   •    One year prior truck driving or transportation experience or truck driver training required.

    Physical Requirements: •    Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. frequently and 100 lbs. with assistance, regularly. •    Must be able to frequently bend, stoop and stretch. •    Must be able to engage in prolonged sitting while in a moving vehicle.

    Working Conditions: Frequent physical exertion which requires wearing a back brace; exposure to unfit donated goods; regular travel throughout the Gulf Coast area.  May be subjected to the usual hazards of highway driving.
