    Job Description

    PARENT EDUCATOR - HIPPY PROGRAM NEEDED FOR THE BALDWIN COUNTY AREA.

    To provide and coordinate services, connections to resources and referral information to families with young children participating in the HIPPY program.

     ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (MUST BE ABLE TO PERFORM THESE FUNCTIONS, WITH OR WITHOUT A REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION).

    1.PARTICIPATES IN AND EFFECTIVELY DEMONSTRATES WEEKLY ROLE-PLAY ACTIVITIES FOR DELIVERING PARENT-FOCUSED LITERACY ACTIVITIES AS PRESCRIBED BY THE HIPPY CURRICULUM STANDARDS.

    2.CONDUCTS HOME VISITS USING THE HIPPY CURRICULUM ON A WEEKLY BASIS ENSURING INTEGRITY OF THE MODEL AND ALL ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE PROGRAM.

    3.BUILDS AND MAINTAINS STRONG RAPPORT WITH FAMILIES, ENCOURAGING, SUPPORTING AND PROMOTING HEALTHY PARENTING SKILLS AND RELATIONSHIPS.

    4.PROVIDES AND MAINTAINS PROPER, UPDATED AND ACCURATE DOCUMENTATION ON EACH CHILD AND FAMILY, ENSURING PROGRAM COMPLIANCE WITH REGULATORY AND FUNDING PARTNER AGENCIES.

    5.PARTICIPATES IN INITIAL INTAKE INTERVIEWS, ASSESSMENTS, AND OTHER ELIGIBILITY ACTIVITIES FOR ENROLLING NEW FAMILIES AS APPROPRIATE.

    6.CONDUCTS PRE AND POST ASSESSMENTS UTILIZING APPROPRIATE TOOLS AND SCREENING INSTRUMENTS.

    7.ASSISTS IN PLANNING, HELPS PREPARE FOR, AND ACTIVELY PARTICIPATES IN MONTHLY GROUP MEETINGS HELD AT VARIOUS COMMUNITY LOCATIONS. 

    8.ASSISTS IN LINKING FAMILIES TO COMMUNITY RESOURCES AND SERVICES PROVIDED BY GES AND OTHER COMMUNITY PARTNERS TO ADDRESS ISSUES RELATED TO EDUCATION, FINANCIAL WELLNESS, HEALTHCARE, HOUSING AND OTHER BASIC NEEDS.

    9.PROMOTES PROGRAM AWARENESS AND PARTICIPATION THROUGH COMMUNITY NETWORKING, INVOLVEMENT WITH LOCAL AGENCIES, PARENTS AND OTHER SERVICE PROVIDERS INVOLVED IN EARLY CARE AND EDUCATION.

    10.SUPPORTS, MONITORS AND DOCUMENTS FAMILIES’ PARTICIPATION IN HIPPY SERVICES AND OTHER PROGRAM ACTIVITIES PROVIDED IN COMMUNITY-BASED SITES.

    11.COMMUNICATES REGULARLY WITH SUPERVISOR, HIPPY TEAM MEMBERS, GES MISSION SERVICES STAFF AND COMMUNITY PARTNERS ENSURING THAT ALL ENROLLED FAMILIES ARE AWARE OF AND HAVE ACCESS TO SERVICES ACCORDING TO GES EXPECTATIONS AND CONSISTENT WITH PROGRAM MODEL.     

    12.UNDER THE DIRECTION OF THE COORDINATOR, ACCURATELY INPUTS DATA AND PROGRESS INFORMATION INTO THE GES AND NATIONAL HIPPY DATABASE SYSTEMS WITHIN THE TIME SPECIFIED.

    13.MAINTAINS ACCOUNTABILITY OF INVENTORY OF SUPPLIES, MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT ESSENTIAL TO THE OPERATION OF THE PROGRAM AND FOLLOWS PROPER PROCEDURES FOR NEW ACQUISITIONS AND PURCHASES. 

    14.PARTICIPATES IN PLANNING, DEVELOPING AND COORDINATING YEARLY PROGRAM CALENDAR WHICH REFLECTS A VARIETY OF ENRICHING, EDUCATIONAL AND EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES FOR CHILDREN, FAMILIES AND TEAM MEMBERS.

    15.MAINTAINS EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATIONS WITH PROGRAM COORDINATOR, PARENT EDUCATORS, OTHER GES STAFF, PARENTS AND COMMUNITY SERVICE PROVIDERS THROUGH USE OF MEETINGS, CONFERENCES, NEWSLETTERS, MEMOS, ETC.

    16.STAYS CURRENT ON ISSUES PERTAINING TO EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT AND EDUCATION BY PARTICIPATING IN ON-GOING TRAINING AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES INCLUDING SEMINARS, CONFERENCES, IN-HOUSE TRAINING AND THROUGH PERSONAL RESEARCH.

    17.MAINTAINS A POSITIVE WORKING RELATIONSHIP WITH TEAM MEMBERS, PARENTS, COMMUNITY PARTNERS, AND COLLABORATING AGENCIES THROUGH ACTIVE LISTENING, OPEN AND HONEST COMMUNICATION, ENCOURAGEMENT AND SHARED DECISION-MAKING.

    18.OBSERVES ALL SAFETY PROCEDURES AND PERSONNEL POLICIES.

    19.REGULAR ATTENDANCE, AS OUTLINED IN GOODWILL EASTER SEALS’ POLICY, IS REQUIRED.

    20.OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED.

    SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: (THESE ARE REQUIRED TO ENABLE JOB HOLDER TO PERFORM THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB).

    1.MUST BE ABLE TO INTERACT CORDIALLY AND PRODUCTIVELY WITH A VARIETY OF PEOPLE.                              

    2.MUST BE ABLE TO MARKET GOODWILL EASTER SEALS AND EXPLAIN THE MISSION TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC.                    

    3.MUST POSSESS BASIC COMPUTER SKILLS.

    4.MUST POSSESS EXCELLENT ORGANIZATIONAL AND TIME MANAGEMENT SKILLS.

    5.MUST BE ABLE TO TAKE INITIATIVE, MAKE DECISIONS AND WORK WELL WITH LITTLE SUPERVISION.

    6.MUST BE ABLE TO KEEP INFORMATION CONFIDENTIAL.

    7.MUST BE ABLE TO READ, WRITE AND COMMUNICATE CLEARLY IN ENGLISH.

    8.MUST BE ABLE TO MAINTAIN AN EFFECTIVE WORKING RELATIONSHIP WITH, AND AMONG TEAM MEMBERS AND CO-WORKERS WHILE SUPPORTING THEM TO THEIR BEST PERFORMANCE. 

    9.MUST BE ABLE TO WORK A FLEXIBLE SCHEDULE, INCLUDING SOME EVENINGS AND/OR SATURDAYS EACH MONTH.

    10.ABILITY TO FUNCTION IN A HECTIC WORK ENVIRONMENT WITH OCCASIONAL PERIODS OF HIGH STRESS.

    11.MUST HAVE RELIABLE MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION, A VALID DRIVERS’ LICENSE, LIABILITY AUTOMOBILE INSURANCE AND BE INSURABLE THROUGH THE AGENCY’S INSURANCE CARRIER.

    Qualifications

    EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

    • HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA OR GED REQUIRED.

    • SOME ADDITIONAL TRAINING, EDUCATION AND OR WORK EXPERIENCE IN CHILD DEVELOPMENT REQUIRED (EXCEPTION FOR FORMER HIPPY PARENTS).

    • HOME VISITATION EXPERIENCE A PLUS.

    • MUST BE ABLE TO OBTAIN DHR BACKGROUND CLEARANCES  INCLUDING ABI AND FBI FINGERPRINT CHECK.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    Adequately lighted and ventilated building, with regular home visitation within rural and/or low-income neighborhoods.  Frequent travel throughout the Gulf Coast area including occasional overnight travel.

    Additional Information

     

    • 20 to 26 hours per week. Flexible scheduling with some evenings and Saturdays. Required Tuesday morning staff meeting.
