GMC has an opening for Geologist to support on-going projects in Montgomery, AL office. The Geologist will play an integral part in helping our Environmental Engineering department provide innovative solutions to complex environmental challenges. This position will serve as a project manager for environmental projects and perform statistical analysis based on fieldwork findings. This position also reports to the Environmental Department Manager or Environmental EVP. The Environmental department offers a multidisciplinary approach aimed at assessing and mitigating environmental impacts, gaining regulatory approvals, managing risk, and controlling costs.
Essential functions and responsibilities include:
· Geological research to evaluate site-specific geologic and hydrogeological conditions and risks
· Phase I Environmental Site Assessments
· Phase II Investigations
· Underground Storage Tank Investigations / Closures
· Landfill groundwater and gas monitoring plans and fieldwork
· Source water assessments
· Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plans
· Evaluate analytical results and complete findings repor
Minimum Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Geology or a related field
· 5+ years of experience
· Proficient in MS Office, AutoCAD, GIS
· An understanding of ADEM regulations and APECS System
· Strong written and oral communication skills
· Geologist license (PG)
· Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
· Authorized to work in the U.S.
Work Environment
This position requires work to be performed in an office environment and in the field. Work done in the field may consist of exposure to various types of weather and temperatures. Geologists may also be exposed to pollutants, chemicals, insects, and possibly water-borne pathogens. Employees are required to wear appropriate protective clothing and gear when performing fieldwork. About 60% percent of the work will be done in the field and 40% will be done in the office.
Travel requirements:
Geologists will be expected to travel to various work sites to perform fieldwork. Company cars and/or rental vehicles shall be utilized to travel between the office and work sites.
