    Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) is one of the largest privately-held architecture and engineering firms in the Southeast, with offices located throughout Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee.

    GMC has an opening for ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTIST to support on-going projects in MONTGOMERY, AL AND BIRMINGHAM, AL office. This position will be an Environmental Scientist I with responsibilities including managing biological resources-related projects, preparing technical reports and plans in accordance with agency requirements, and assisting the biological resources team during environmental reviews of projects by the appropriate jurisdictions and agencies

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

    • Support resource agency consultation and permitting, client coordination, and preparation of proposals and related marketing support
    • The Environmental Scientist I will be required to conduct NPDES permitting and inspections and other types of environmental science / biology work to include wetland delineations and permitting, threatened and endangered species surveys, Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, and National Environmental Policy Act documentation
    • Perform field work in support of monitoring, delineations and site investigations
    • Training will be provided to you for the various elements below, as needed
    • Other activities, as directed by your supervisor

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor in Environmental Science related field, Biology, Ecology, Forestry, Geology
    • 0-3+ Years of experience
    • Physically able to perform field work
    • Experience with NPDES Phase I and Phase II MS4 Permit, and NPDES General Construction Permit compliance preferred
    • 404 Permit and Stream Buffer Variance compliance preferred
    • Phase I Site Assessments preferred
    • Wetland Delineations preferred
    • Field inspections for erosion and sedimentation, stormwater site inspections, detention pond and other BMP inspections, drainage system inventory and condition assessment, industrial and highly visible pollutant inspections preferred
    • Stormwater Management/Natural Resources planning preferred
    • Water quality monitoring and dry weather screening preferred

    TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

    • 30-50% Occasional overnight travel
