    Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) is one of the largest privately-held architecture and engineering firms in the Southeast, with offices located throughout Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee.

    GMC has an opening for Project Engineer to support on-going projects in our Tampa, FL office. A Project Engineer must demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the firm’s values and standards for project delivery and client management, express a keen understanding of the industry standards and the expectations of the client, demonstrate the leadership required for effective team contributions to the firm’s success including contributions to firm standards and employee development.

    Essential functions and responsibilities include:

    TECHNICAL

    o Applies extensive diversified knowledge of principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields, and proven ability to apply them

    o Independently evaluates, selects and adapts standard techniques, procedures and criteria

    o Build client relationships and assist with specific client development using technical expertise

    o Understands economic and decision analysis principals in area of expertise including financial, regulatory and environmental issues

    o Knowledge of entire project process – development/scoping, design, construction

    o Designs a complete project, system component or process

    o Prepares complete project documents, including scopes, budgets and schedules

    o Analyzes and interprets data and formulates and solves problems

    o Responsible for accuracy of technical aspects of projects

    o Solves complex and novel assignments requiring new or improved techniques or procedures

    o QA/QC

    • Executes cross discipline checks and coordination

    • Reviews complete project documents for conformity and quality assurance

    • Recognizes and reports risk management issues to Vice President and Senior Project Manager as appropriate

    o Incorporate complex design concepts into functional project based on the Project Manager’s design concept to that project team

    o Delegate project assignments to and assist with technical development of lesser experienced engineers

    o Coordinate the work of assigned team members on multiple projects; assigns tasks to and directs engineers, technicians and administrative staff

    o Plans and coordinates detailed aspects of the engineering work

    o Receives guidance relating to overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts and policy matters; also receives direction on unusual conditions and developments

    o Develops new techniques and/or improved processes, materials or products

    o Actively participate in GMC committees of personal interest

    o Utilizes decision making, time management and delegation as tools to demonstrate leadership skills and promote continuous improvement

    o Responsible for enforcement of project delivery standards including technical, procedural and CAD

    o Develops, approves and conducts technical training as requested

    • SERVICE

    o Encourage participation and remain proactive in the Personal Development Plan process and program

    o Hold membership in local professional society – holding office in technical/professional society preferred

    o Participate in community service activities and understand implications of involvement

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Minimum of 4 years of experience

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field

    • Engaged in life-long learning to maintain knowledge of technical and contemporary issues

    • LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATION

    o Professional Engineer

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    • FIELD (20%) AND OFFICE (80%)

    o This position requires work to be performed in an office environment and in the field. Work done in the field may consist of exposure to various types of weather and temperatures. Engineers may also be exposed to pollutants, chemicals, insects, and possibly water-borne pathogens, Employees are required to wear appropriate protective clothing and gear when performing fieldwork.

    TRAVEL

    o Engineers will be expected to travel to various work sites to perform fieldwork. Company cars and/or rental vehicles shall be utilized to travel between work sites.
