    Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) is one of the largest privately-held architecture and engineering firms in the Southeast, with offices located throughout Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee.

    GMC has an opening for Environmental Scientist to support on-going projects in our Birmingham, AL office. This position will be an Environmental Scientist II with responsibilities including managing biological resources-related projects, preparing technical reports and plans in accordance with agency requirements, and assisting the biological resources team during environmental reviews of projects by the appropriate jurisdictions and agencies.

    Essential functions and responsibilities include:

    • Conduct Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs)
    • NPDES General Construction Stormwater Permit compliance and site compliance inspections
    • Field work associated with wetland/stream delineations and land management monitoring
    • Section 404/Section 10 Permitting
    • Preparation of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation
    • Understand key map elements and have the ability to create static maps using ArcGIS
    • Express a keen understanding of the industry standards and the expectations of project deliverables
    • Demonstrate effective team contribution and employee development
    • Other activities as directed by your supervisor

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science related field, Biology, Ecology, Forestry, Geology, Natural Resource Management and others
    • 3-5+ Years of experience
    • Physically able to perform field work
    • Experience conducting Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESA)
    • Experience with NPDES General Construction Stormwater Permit compliance and site compliance inspections
    • Experience with wetland/stream delineations
    • Knowledge and experience with Section 404 Permitting
    • Experience in the preparation of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation. Preference given to those with NEPA experience related to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
    • Experience in GIS applications and ability to operate GIS software

    Travel requirements:

    • 60% Office and 40% Field
    • Occasional overnight travel
