    Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) is one of the largest privately held architecture and engineering firms in the Southeast.

    GMC has an opening for an Engineering Designer to support on-going projects in Lutz, FL office. This position will be involved in all stages of design and construction and will assist project engineers and project managers in producing documents and managing the projects. Applicant should be well organized and able to work within a design system, ready to grow quickly into project management, and a good communicator willing and able to network with outside consultants to assist in driving the project.

    Essential functions and responsibilities include:

    • Builds on extensive technical foundations with expectation to make significant contributions to the team efforts for the benefit of the client.
    • Demonstrates ability to evaluate, select, and apply standards, techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform a task or sequence of tasks for conventional projects with few complex features.
    • Understands technical requirements needed in the design of a project and how various disciplines are integrated to meet the needs of the client.
    • Independent performer on most assignments
    • Produce plans and drawings as assigned with minimal instruction.
    • Read and produce legal descriptions.
    • Assist with developing standards and guidelines.
    • Provide input towards improving operational procedures.
    • Able to perform tasks in support of Staff Professionals and Engineer Interns.
    • Performs more advanced drafting tasks.
    • Continually participate in Individual Development planning and program.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Possesses thorough understanding of AutoCAD Civil 3D drafting program and be skilled in its application.
    • Demonstrates strong understanding of surveying principles.
    • Exercises broad knowledge of the design process and understands company technical standards.
    • This position is for site/civil design. Successful applicant must also be able to coordinate with multiple components of design (i.e. structural, civil, electrical, etc.).
    • Knowledge of codes and design in construction practices.
    • Ability to apply technical skills to routine projects with minimal supervision.
    • Ability to effectively present information in oral and written format.
    • Receives general supervision on assignments and thorough review of all aspects of work.
    • Receives instruction on specific objectives, and direction on unconventional and/or complex problems.
    • Ability to respond to common inquiries from contractors, surveyors, survey field personnel, city code enforcement or regulatory agencies.

    Travel requirement

    This position will be expected to travel to various work sites to perform fieldwork. Company cars and/or rental vehicles shall be utilized to travel between work sites.

    Other Requirements

    • Minimum of 3 years
    • Technical school or community college
    • AutoCAD and Civil 3D proficiency required
