    About Us

    The Goose Creek Rural Fire Department is a combination paid/volunteer fire department in Berkeley County, South Carolina. Our primary coverage area is the unincorporated areas of Goose Creek. We provide full-time coverage with both part-time and volunteer staff. We protect a district of over 600 residential homes, 5 shopping centers, 3 schools, 13 apartment complexes, 11 industrial facilities, and a population of over 20,000. We provide free training to members ranging from entry level to advanced for all positions in the department. Once basic training is completed, all members are required to work a specific number of shifts in the station.

    Job Position Description

    The position of Volunteer IT Support is an entry level or above position and applies to volunteer personnel wanting to provide IT support to the fire department. The personnel would be responsible for providing technical assistance and support related to computer systems, hardware, and software. This position would respond to queries, isolate problems, determine solutions, document, and implement fixes. A significant portion of these support requests can be handled remotely via phone and remote terminals.

    Responsibilities include:

    Serve as a first point of contact for employees seeking technical assistance over the phone, via email, or web.

    Perform hands on and remote troubleshooting through diagnostic techniques and asking pertinent questions.

    Determining the best solution based on the issue and details provided by customers.

    Walk the employee through the problem-solving process.

    Direct unresolved issues to the next level of support personnel.

    Provide accurate information on IT products or services.

    Record events and problems and their resolution.

    Follow-up and update status and information.

    Pass on any feedback or suggestions by employees to the appropriate internal team.

    Identify and suggest possible improvements on procedures.

    Provide account administration roles for various web based systems to include user management and password resets

    No prerequisite required

    Successful Background Check

    Bonus Experience: Microsoft experience including: Office 365 (especially SharePoint, Teams, and collaboration tools), Windows, and working within an Active Directory Domain.

    Ability to diagnose and resolve workstation technical issues.

    Proficiency in English and excellent communication skills.

    Customer-oriented and cool-tempered.

    Ability to occasionally lift 35 pounds to 4-5 feet in height.
