About Us
The Goose Creek Rural Fire Department is a combination paid/volunteer fire department in Berkeley County, SC. Our primary coverage area is the unincorporated areas of Goose Creek. We provide full time coverage with both part-time and volunteer staff. We protect a district of over 600 residences, 5 shopping centers, 5 schools, 13 apartment complexes, 9 industrial facilities, and a population of over 18,000. We staff a fleet of 2 Engines, 1 Squad/Rescue, 1 Tower Ladder, 2 Staff Vehicles, and 3 Chief Officer vehicles housed in 2 stations. Our Headquarters Station is located at 907 Red Bank Rd and our Mount Holly Station located at 156 Old Mount Holly Rd.
Job Position Description
The position of Volunteer Vehicle Maintenance Support is an entry level position for those wanting to provide vehicle maintenance support to a fire department. The personnel would be responsible for routine maintenance of fire apparatus and staff vehicles. The maintenance and inspections would be performed on a weekly basis.
Responsibilities
Maintain and/or repair fire equipment
Check and maintain fluid levels
Inspect and adjust
Brakes
Tires
Lights
Batteries
Generators
Inspect and replace hydraulic systems
Diagnose and/or repair
Fuel systems
Cooling systems
Pumping systems
Assist Assistant Chief with diagnostics and repair
Pick up and deliver equipment and vehicles to outside repair shops
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Two-year trade school or equivalent
Successful background check
Experience with diagnostic equipment/software
Experience with digital volt meter
South Carolina Class E Driver's License or CDL (Preferred)
Bonus Qualifications: ASE Medium-Heavy Truck Certificate (T2-T8)
Bonus Qualifications: EVT Certifications (F1)
Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word and Windows 10
