Government Affairs Specialist - Contract PT - 2027 Legislative Session

This is a part-time, temporary position for the 2027 Texas Legislative Session, beginning fall 2026 and ending in or around May 2027.
The Government Affairs Specialist will assist the TXCPA Government Affairs team in managing several aspects of the TXCPA advocacy program. The TXCPA Government Affairs Department manages the Society’s legislative and advocacy programs, PAC, Key Persons Program (grassroots advocacy), outside lobbyists, bill tracking, and state legislative relationships. This is a fast-paced work environment requiring the ability to manage multiple tasks and provide quick turnaround.
Job duties will include, but not be limited to:
Assist the Director of Government Affairs in tracking legislation and assigning bill analysis and follow up with the Bill Review Program.
Planning, scheduling and coordinating legislative visits to the Capitol as part of TXCPA's Advocacy Day.
Assist the Government Affairs team in managing and growing the Key Persons Program (grassroots advocacy program) including Key Persons communications during session.
Collaborate closely with the Director of Government Affairs and the Marketing/Communications Department in the development of both a 2027 legislative communications plan and a PAC communications plan. Session communications plan will include email updates, session news, calls to action, and other communications that will aid in passing the TXCPA legislative agenda. PAC communications and outreach should focus on an extended outreach to new TXCPA members. Tactics may include a video campaign, fundraisers, new PAC collateral, social media, and other outreach efforts.
Coordinate and assist with Calls to Action for state and national legislative and regulatory issues.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Experience in working in state government or with a statewide trade association in the legislative or advocacy space preferred.
Knowledge of bill tracking programs (Telicon, TLIS) and advocacy/grassroots platforms (VoterVoice).
Experience with political action committees, PAC fundraising, and advocacy communications.
Experience with legislative communications.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
Database management experience
Bachelor's Degree
