Church members were called out to serve on the first school board, which was composed of some homeschool parents, teachers, and businessmen who had a heart for children. After almost two years of research and preparation, Grace Christian Academy opened its doors at the beginning of the 1997-98 school year. God worked through fifty-five families and five staff members to make GCA more than a vision.Over the years, enrollment has grown rapidly to the present-day level of nearly 900 students. In 2004, Grace Christian Academy received full accreditation in grades K-12. The 2004-05 school year brought the graduation of the first senior class and groundbreaking for phase one of the new high school building and athletic fields, which opened in the fall of 2006.Grace Christian Academy is conveniently located on Oak Ridge Highway in the Karns community of west Knoxville, Tennessee. Strong commercial and residential development have taken place in our region in recent years, resulting in an excellent quality of life. Churches, shopping malls, medical facilities and other services are all in close proximity.The turnover rate for GCA educators is low. Many of our faculty have been on staff for ten years or more. Professional QualificationsDesirable candidates should have the following background or comparable experience:● Minimum three years teaching the content area● Advanced degree preferred● High level of emotional intelligence● Exceptional oral and written communication skills● Experience integrating technology into the curriculum● Ability to engage parents as partners in the student’s educational experience● A history of continued growth and development as an educator● A history of effective collaboration with colleagues● Desire to interact with students outside of the classroom (e.g. coaching, clubs, etc.)Job Responsibilities
Teach Introductory, Honors and Advanced Placement Visual Art courses
Discern appropriate topics and projects that support GCA’s mission
Create lessons centered around a Christian worldview
Understands and can apply elements of design and modern principles of art
Demonstrate and teach skills in drawing, painting, and ceramics
Teach a well-rounded visual art curriculum
Evaluate each student’s performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understandings
Facilitate discussions for peer review and analysis of art projects
Plan and present art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit students’ work for the
school and the community
Facilitate opportunities for students to enter art competitions outside of school
Requisition supplies for projects
Devise lesson plans that follow GCA’s Curriculum and Instruction Standards and Course Maps
Ability to hold students to a clearly articulated standard of performance
Experiment with different teaching methods
Differentiate instruction for students with learning challenges
Maintain a positive classroom environment that promotes safe learning

Perform any other duties as may be assigned by Administration
