    UPPER SCHOOL CHEMISTRY INSTRUCTOR JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Upper School College Prep (General) Chemistry Instructor Reports To: Upper School Principal Time Status: Will consider Part Time or Full Time candidates JOB SUMMARY To serve as an upper school college prep chemistry instructor in fulfillment of GCA’s mission to Lead, Build, and Equip students. PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS Every member of Grace Christian Academy’s professional community must be a committed follower of Jesus Christ. Additionally, candidate should be an active participant at a local church. PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS Desirable candidates should have the following background or comparable experience: • Minimum three years teaching science/math preferred • Advanced degree preferred • High level of emotional intelligence • Exceptional oral and written communication skills • Experience integrating technology into the curriculum • Ability to engage parents/guardians as partners in the student’s educational experience • A history of continued growth and development as an educator • A history of effective collaboration with colleagues • Desire to interact with students outside of the classroom (e.g. coaching, clubs, etc.) ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, but are not limited to: • Teach college prep chemistry and/or other science course of comparable rigor • Give instruction to the students in the curricula area assigned by the Upper School Principal • Design teaching material • Ability to teach introductory level chemistry course in a rigorous college preparatory setting • Create lessons centered around a biblical worldview • Facilitate course discussions on social issues from a biblical lens while acknowledging various denominational differences • Devise lesson plans that follow GCA’s Curriculum and Instruction Standards and Course Maps • Ability to hold students to a clearly articulated standard of performance • Experiment with different teaching methods • Differentiate instruction for students with learning challenges • Maintain a positive classroom environment that promotes safe learning • Utilize learning management system for instruction • Update grades and lesson plans on FACTS • Maintain cordial relationships with the home, parent(s)/guardian(s) and community • Keep parent(s)/guardian(s) duly informed of the child’s progress and hold conferences with parent(s)/guardian(s) when necessary • Report to the appropriate authorities when one knows or reasonably suspects that a child’s health or welfare has been or appears to have been harmed as a result of abuse or neglect. • Establish and maintain satisfactory, respectful working relationships within the school environment • Perform other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS and SKILLS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
