Maumee Valley Country Day School is seeking an inspiring, student-centered, and collaborative educator to teach 6th-grade math and science in our Middle School. A good candidate has experience designing engaging, inquiry-based lessons that nurture curiosity and build foundational skills in both disciplines. The ideal candidate understands the unique developmental needs of early adolescents and brings both content expertise and a passion for interdisciplinary teaching.
This position reports to the Head of Middle School and collaborates closely with the 6th grade teaching team, Middle School faculty, and the Math and Science Departments. Key Responsibilities and Duties
Teach 6th grade math and science in a developmentally appropriate and engaging manner, utilizing differentiated instruction
Create a classroom environment that encourages problem-solving, creativity, experimentation, and academic growth
Design and implement a curriculum that connects math and science to real-world applications and cross-curricular projects
Use varied assessment tools to inform instruction and provide feedback to students and families
Foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful classroom community
Collaborate with colleagues to plan integrated learning experiences and support student needs
Collaboratively plan and co-teach social studies and human growth and development units
Participate in division and department meetings, professional development, and school-wide events
Serve as a 6th grade advisor, collaboratively planning advisory lessons, and contribute to the overall life of the Middle School
Apply restorative justice principles to resolve conflict, repair harm, and restore relationships between affected community members
The best candidate will demonstrate a strong understanding and practice of the following:
Experience using a guided math approach to reach a wide range of learners
Experience teaching big ideas to promote conceptual understanding
Use of manipulatives and other hands-on activities for experiential learning
Fostering a growth mindset in students
Pedagogical skills to organize and implement rigorous math and science instruction that engages and excites our learners
Passion for educational research and effective practice
Ability to implement backward design, organize instruction around established learning objectives, and understand the vital importance of planning
Incorporate parental involvement in the instructional program and create strong home-school communication structures
Attendance at a week-long overnight camp trip with the students

Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in education (grades 4-9), specializing in math and science; master’s degree preferred
3-5 years of teaching experience in providing experiential and effective math and science instruction, preferred
Proven track record of assisting students in reaching high levels of academic achievement
Faculty:
Must be willing and able to secure an Ohio Permanent Non-Tax certificate or Professional Teaching license. The school will support you in obtaining this once hired.
