    As a Generalist at Latham, you will be responsible for assisting the administration of existing Firm benefit policies.  The Generalist will support the department and the local offices by ensuring that staff and attorneys have access to a centralized resource and uses their knowledge of the Firm’s benefits programs to answer questions, facilitate enrollments, and monitor life style event changes for benefits purposes.  The Generalist will also develop and maintain relationships with insurance carriers, third-party administrators, and vendors at the Firm. The responsibilities of the Generalist will also include :

     

    • Monitoring benefit telephone line and e-mail box in an effort to respond to benefits-related questions from staff and attorneys at the Firm
    • Acting as a centralized point of contact and responding to questions from the local offices regarding Firm benefits; understanding benefits eligibility rules for all health, welfare, workers’ compensation and retirement benefits; being able to answer benefits questions from attorneys, paralegals, and staff, and using appropriate resources in the Global Benefits Department as needed
    • Leading benefits portion of new hire orientation for attorneys and staff in the various offices; ensuring understanding of the programs offered by the Firm and awareness of enrollment deadlines
    • Promoting the value added benefits of the Firm with a goal of increasing awareness and participation; planning health & wellness events for the local offices as needed throughout the year
    • Assisting with settlement of claims disputes
    • Establishing relations with insurance carriers and vendors by handling day-to-day administration of group plans
    • Coordinating and assisting with firm-wide annual benefits enrollment renewals; educating participants by providing clear and complete information in accordance with group policy, terms, and conditions
    • Assisting with developing benefit communications, detailed benefit summaries, and presentations
    • Assisting with market research and preparing census data as part of requests for proposals for all Firm administered benefit programs
    • Advising management of observed trends, unanswered requests, potential problems, or critical issues in order to troubleshoot problem areas before they escalate and interfere with benefit efforts
    • Keeping abreast of general benefits trends and conducting market research in order to make recommendations to management regarding existing and future benefit plans
    • Maintaining relationships with key departments in the office and the Firm including the Payroll Department, Accounting Department, and Information Technology
    • Working with brokers and carriers regarding ongoing service issues; working with the Leave of Absence Team as needed; assisting with special projects regarding various benefit issues as needed
    • Promoting effective work practices, working as a team member, and showing respect for co-workers

     

    As a Generalist, you will be expected to apply your organizational and communication skills while displaying a positive, high-energy attitude. The successful Generalist must have comprehensive knowledge of the terms and conditions of health and welfare plans to ensure the proper administration by insurers and vendors, as well as knowledge of benefits practices. The ideal candidate will be fluent in Spanish, have well-developed and professional interpersonal skills, strong communication skill, as well as the ability to work in a team environment with a customer service focus. The Generalist will be able to handle confidential and sensitive information with the appropriate discretion, have the organizational skills needed to manage time well, be able to multi-task, and have excellent follow-up skills.

     

    A High School Diploma or equivalent is required. A Bachelor’s degree is preferred. A minimum of two (2) years of related Employee Benefits administration experience is desired.

  • Qualifications
    • Ability to provide technical expertise in accomplishing Aegis CSSQT and T&E objectives in support of PEO IWS, PEO SHIPS, MDA, and NAVSEA requirements
    • Capability to assist the Project Officer in leadership of large, multi-organization test teams, and in project management for Air Defense and Surface Warfare test activities.
    • Experience in independently planning, managing and performing complex Air Defense and Surface Warfare test project assignment (CSSQTs, etc.)
    • Knowledge of AEGIS combat system maintenance and modernization planning, scheduling, and execution efforts.
    • Capability to liaison between the NSWC PHD FMS team and the larger NAVSEA AEGIS Combat System community to research and obtain recommendations to resolve reported problems as they arise.
    • Knowledge of the development of Combat Systems maintenance and modernization work packages and plans, maintenance of metrics, technical manual reviews, and review of ORDALT installation candidates.
    • Applicant must have exceptional written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
    • Applicants must be able to work well alone and as part of a team.
    • Preferred applicant would have served at least one active duty tour onboard an AEGIS ship as Division Leading Chief or Combat Systems Maintenance Manager.
    • Candidate will be located at PHD, will likely be seated on base. Candidate must currently possess or be able to obtain qualification as a NSWC PHD CSSQT/T&E Electronics Technician.
