  • Responsibilities

    POSITION OVERVIEW:  

    Responsible for delivering counseling services to students.

    PRIMARY/MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):

    • Provides ongoing structured, scheduled and documented individual career counseling sessions.

    • Provides crisis counseling, including pregnancy counseling. Provides prompt resolution of any student’s issues or difficulties.

    • Develops counseling plan to address students’ negative behaviors and a plan to reward positive behavior from the students’ initial enrollment until they transition out of the program.

    • Identifies student’s personal and academic issues so that the appropriate support can be provided.

    • Ensures students’ accountability information to include leaves, attendance and UA retrieval is submitted accurately and within established time frames.

    • Maintains contact with all students who are in UA status and does everything to retrieve them from UA.

    • Reviews attendance sheets for accuracy of documentation.

    • Administers students’ Evaluation of Student Progress (ESP) within PRH and Center guidelines. Ensures that each student has an evaluation at least every 60 days.   Schedules special panels as necessary.

    • Updates and distributes student’s PCDPs whenever the student’s plan changes, and in conjunction with each ESP.

    • Actively participates in OMS meetings. Projects student completion dates. Provides all separation paperwork for each student.

    • Ensures that students develop Career Success Standards (CSS): provides individual and group lessons or project assignments during and after the training day and on weekends to help students’ master competencies in all standards.

    • Works in collaboration with the CMT team, CTT instructor, Academic Instructor, Residential Living, Health and Wellness staff, CSIO, and CTS to ensure students’ successful matriculation through the program.

    • Provides accurate documentation of student’s matriculation throughout CDSS.   Ensures that regular communication is documented to include individual and group counseling sessions, UA retrieval efforts, and barriers to successful enrollment.

    SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Discusses sexual harassment and fraternization policy with trainees and counsels behavior as needed.
    • Assists in Center adjustment, and serves as a liaison between students, staff, family, and community services: Confers with parents, admissions counselors, CTS, social service agencies and other community resources to ensure adjustment to Center.
    • Refers students to other community agencies for training or services not provided by the Center.
    • Provides structured, scheduled, and documented individual social development and adjustment counseling to all students who are identified as having adjustment issues to the program or are considered to be high risk.
    • Participates in CMT.
    • Provide support to the Career Development Services System (CDSS) department to ensure student job readiness.
    • All other duties as assigned.

    Required Skills

    REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Bachelor’s Degree with at least 15 semester hours of instruction in Social Services related instruction.
    • One year’s experience in counseling or related field.
    • Valid state driver’s license.
    • CPR/First Aid certifications

    PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • Above average public speaking skills and experience in the same.
    • Above average verbal, written, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills.
    • Computer literacy; specifically internet, e-mail and Microsoft Suites.
