    GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB

    The Controller manages the overall accounting and finance activities of the Grange Co-op, under the supervision of the Chief Executive Officer.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Develop and administer accounting policies and procedures
    • Provide accurate and timely financial management reports, including, but not limited to, internal and external monthly financial statements, annual audits and annual budgets
    • Take ownership of Grange Co-op’s annual budget process and ensure the preparation, consolidation and distribution of budgets and related reports
    • Review ongoing operation results and prepare appropriate reports, financial information and recommendations for review by management
    • Ensure a timely monthly accounts payable close and assist accounts payable team as needed with purchase orders, receiving reports and other items
    • Ensure a timely accounts receivable close and assist accounts receivable employees with reconciliations and other items needed. Provide direction to accounts receivable staff as needed
    • Oversee the Company’s treasury function, including relationships with bankers and lenders. Ensure the company has proper cash on hand and is properly leveraged for its operating needs
    • Ensure timely compliance of corporate income tax code and assure the accurate and timely completion of all corporate income tax returns taking full advantage of all favorable tax codes
    • Ensure the Company is pursuing internal control recommendations provided by Controller, CEO, and or external auditors after applying a reasonable cost vs. benefit approach and considering risk to the organization
    • Direct systems and controls which verify the integrity of all systems processes and data and enhance the company’s value
    • Oversee the Company’s annual physical inventory counts as well as cycle counting (as applicable), including outsourcing of the inventory counting functions to outside vendors
    • Participate in physical inventories of all operational areas and work with Operations Managers to report results of inventories in an accurate and timely manner
    • Respond to Chief Executive Officer to provide accurate and timely work to facilitate the Chief Executive Officer’s needs
    • Communicate with co-workers, management, vendors and customers in a courteous and professional manner
    • Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions
    • Participate in ongoing training and education to sharpen and maintain skills related to position and alignment with Grange Co-op’s goals
    • Partner with Business Administration leadership and staff in meeting department objectives including staff development, training, and hiring/evaluation
    • Other duties as deemed necessary by supervisor

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • This position has supervisory responsibilities within the accounting and finance staff

    EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

    • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university in a related field and two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
    • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
    • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference
    • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations

    REASONING ABILITY

    • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
    • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
