    THE FOLLOWING OPPORTUNITY IS WITH LAYNE CHRISTENSEN COMPANY, A GRANITE COMPANY:

    Founded over 130 years ago as a well drilling contractor, Layne is one of the largest, most experienced water service companies, serving hundreds of municipalities, industrial companies, agribusinesses, mining companies and the world. We supply well drilling and construction for dewatering wells, monitor well completions, environmental and geotechnical drilling, water well rehabilitation, pumping equipment sales and services, mineral exploration drilling, hydrologic investigations and water treatment technologies.

    In June 2018, Layne became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Granite Construction, Inc.

    GENERAL SUMMARY 

     This position is accountable for performing specialty groundwater hydrogeologic consulting services related to riverbank filtration water supply systems and horizontal collector wells at locations throughout the United States.

     

    Specific skills for the position would be developed through working with an experienced group of hydrogeologists, engineers, and construction personnel.

     ESSENTIAL JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES  

    Maintain client relationships while undertaking hydrogeologic investigations. 

     

    Evaluate soil borings, electric logs and regional hydrogeologic data to identify productive aquifer zones. 

     

    Responsible for integrity and validity of acquired hydrogeologic field data. 

     

    Complete groundwater modeling, aquifer pumping test analysis and water quality sampling and interpretation. 

     

     Provide technical support to deliver hydrogeologic projects throughout the United States to support specialty well construction, including all aspects of data collection, interpretation, documentation, and calculation of collector well yields.

     

    Work as part of a small team of highly experienced hydrogeologists and engineers to evaluate site conditions and develop appropriate water supply alternatives.

    EDUCATION   

    • Bachelor's Degree with emphasis in geology, with a Master's Degree preferred. 

    • Licensure (or the ability ot become licensed) as a Professional Geologist, Certified Engineering Geologist, or Geotechnical Engineer is desired. 

      WORK EXPERIENCE  

    • 0-5 years experience in hydrogeology. 

       

    • Ability to work unsupervised for long periods at a time, to ensure a successful project with limited management oversight. 

    • Experience in communicating complex problems and findings to mid and upper level management and clients.

    • Experience in hydrogeologic consulting. 

       

      KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 

       

    • Microsoft Office 

    • Knowledge of subsurface investigation processes including drilling and soil classification 

    • Ability to conduct aquifer and well performance pumping tests

    • Knowledge of water well design and drilling methods 

    • AQTESOLV or similar software 

    • MODFLOW or other model codes 

    • GIS  and/or AutoCAD  PHYSICAL DEMANDS  

      The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit and use hands to operate a computer keyboard. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds of sample material or core boxes. The employee is required to walk uneven and steep ground to access property for the purpose of field mapping. The employee must be able to work outside all seasons of the year, all day long. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.        ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS 

      Because the position will require working throughout the United States, travel by air and car are required.  This travel can be for up to two weeks per month, including some weekends.
