EcoRise mobilizes a new generation of leaders to design healthy, thriving communities for all. We work at the intersection of environmental education, youth leadership, and workforce development to elevate youth voices and advance student-led solutions to real-world challenges. We offer a range of curricula and programs for students, teachers, school districts, and partners, designed to advance environmental literacy, sustainable schools, and access to green career pathways. EcoRise seeks an experienced grant writer to join our dynamic, fast-paced team of change-makers.

POSITION OVERVIEW EcoRise seeks a self-motivated, highly organized, adaptable, and experienced Grant Writer to lead grant research, writing, and proposal development for foundation, corporate, and community funders, including LOIs, concept notes, and proposals. This role will help identify and secure national and place-based funding for the organization's core programs, with a strong focus on our work in New York, Texas, Oklahoma, California, and Washington, DC.

EcoRise's development activities align with our strategic plan and support a $2M annual budget and a portfolio of roughly 15 corporate funders, 15 foundation funders, and 10 community partnerships. From New York City to Central Oklahoma to Southern California, we are deepening the K–12 programs and partnerships that put young people at the center of climate and sustainability solutions, across regions and the political spectrum. Youth Climate Councils, immersive high school internships, and our Student Innovation Fund prepare the next generation of sustainability leaders. Many of our existing partners will require renewal proposals in fiscal year 2026–2027, alongside our goal to grow the funder base across all three categories.

The Grant Writer is a contract position that reports to the Senior Director of Development. This position requires an estimated 15–20 hours per week, including one to two pre-scheduled 30-minute check-ins per week with the Senior Director. The initial term runs July 13, 2026 through January 15, 2027, with an opportunity to extend by mutual agreement and the possibility of converting to an employee role.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Conduct prospect research to identify funding opportunities that would advance place-based impact in established regions (New York, Texas, Oklahoma, California, and Washington, DC).

Establish prospect lists for each region, identify key program officers for organizational outreach, and leverage rubrics to evaluate and make recommendations for prioritization.

Research national funding opportunities that would support program expansion, foster powerful collaboratives, and advance the organization's movement-building priorities.

Use grant management platforms such as Instrumentl and Candid to identify grant opportunities and track prospect lists in Salesforce.

Develop and author compelling letters of interest, concept notes, and proposals, working with Senior Director of Development to gather relevant inputs and necessary data.

Ensure that all submissions from EcoRise meet funder criteria and comply with parameters and detailed requirements for each funding opportunity.

Use project management tools such as Trello, Dropbox, and Salesforce for the different phases of proposal creation, including writing, team review and approval, submission, transmittal, and organization.

Use AI tools to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of research, drafting, and reporting, applying professional judgment to review and refine all outputs.

    REQUIREMENTS

5+ years of experience in nonprofit grant writing, with a demonstrated track record of securing foundation and corporate grants of $100,000 or more.

Experience fundraising in one or more of EcoRise’s core regions (New York, Texas, Oklahoma, California, or Washington, DC) preferred.

Comfort using AI tools to support grant writing, paired with sufficient grant writing or program experience to guide AI effectively, review outputs critically, and ensure accuracy and authentic voice.

Experience writing grants, corporate proposals, and other relevant materials for different stakeholder audiences, with attention to the philanthropic interests and priorities of each audience.

Familiarity with the components of successful grant writing, such as nonprofit budgets, board and governance structures, and program evaluation.

Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to successfully execute multiple, simultaneous projects on time with high-quality results.

Self-driven personality with effective project management skills.

Attentive to detail with keen aptitude for organization.

Strong computer literacy skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Apps, and Salesforce.

Ability to adapt and learn quickly, ask thoughtful questions, and give and receive feedback.

Committed to, knowledgeable of, and enthusiastic about the EcoRise mission and programs; familiarity with sustainability and public K–12 education systems.
