Title - Graphic Designer Client: National Science Foundation (NSF) Location: Alexandria, VA Employment Type: Full-Time
Position Overview
The Graphic Designer will support the National Science Foundation by creating high-quality visual content for print, digital, and multimedia platforms. The role involves developing graphics, infographics, illustrations, presentations, and visual assets that communicate complex scientific information clearly while maintaining NSF’s visual identity and branding standards.
Key Responsibilities
Design graphic layouts and visual content for print and digital media.
Create and edit professional Microsoft PowerPoint presentations for communications and outreach initiatives.
Develop infographics, illustrations, and visual materials for press kits, press releases, publications, and media events.
Design graphics for trade shows, conferences, exhibits, and public outreach events.
Produce visual assets and animated graphics for video production, websites, and social media platforms.
Create original illustrations (including digital and 3D) to visually explain complex scientific or technical concepts.
Research subject matter to ensure accuracy in illustrations and infographics.
Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver creative solutions.
Ensure all visual materials comply with Section 508 accessibility requirements and NSF branding guidelines.
Provide creative and technical guidance on visual communication projects.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or a related field.
5+ years of professional graphic design experience (7+ years for Senior Designer level).
Strong experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, After Effects, etc.).
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
Strong conceptual design and visual storytelling skills.
Experience working collaboratively with stakeholders and following creative direction.
Experience with Section 508 accessibility compliance.
Ability to produce scientifically accurate visual illustrations.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with motion graphics or video editing tools.
Experience with digital asset or project management software.
Demonstrated ability to mentor junior designers.
Portfolio showcasing 3–5 samples of original design work.
