    TRANSPORTATION MANAGER

    VIKING ELECTRIC

    MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA

     

    This position is responsible for leading Viking’s transportation operations including routing, transfer system, driver training, compliance, budgeting, reporting administration and compliance.

     

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

    • Work with Operations Managers to obtain truck lease quotations, approve final lease documents, and establish strong relationships with local dealers.  Maintain truck files and Viking vehicle list to ensure timely renewal notification, accurate invoicing and attainment of all negotiated discounts. 

    • Manage fuel card program including eligible driver list, purchasing limits, active card maintenance, monthly and annual reporting.

    • Responsible for Viking Electric companywide routing. Constantly review routes for efficiency, profitability, and customer satisfaction. Develop processes that support the utilization of technology to maximize customer expertise and improve route efficiency.

    • Work with Operations Managers to develop and maintain company-wide truck standards including equipment, appearance, capacity, and safety measures.

    • Oversee Viking's 3rd party transfer system including carrier selection, contract negotiations, site readiness and arrangements for backup solutions when needed, monitor and report performance of transfer system carriers.

    • Responsible for selecting cost effective LTL carriers for outbound shipments in conjunction with Sonepar initiatives aimed at securing the best rates and carriers for Viking; review and approve LTL carrier billing, assist operations with use of the LTL bill of lading process and provide feedback on carrier performance. Negotiate courier services where applicable.

    • Collaborate with the Safety and Compliance Manager to develop, deliver and track ongoing safety training designed for drivers. Partner and coach Operations Managers and their associates to reinforce safe work/driving practices.  Engage in driver coaching and training through driver ride along audits.    

    • Conduct periodic vehicle safety and standards compliance inspections at all locations.  Identify unsafe conditions or practices, confirm that safety programs are being followed and compliance records are in place. 

    • Serve as a liaison between Viking and Sonepar’s Director of Safety & Transportation to ensure adherence to corporate directives and initiatives.

    • Stay active and current with OSHA, FMCSA, and AWAIR regulations and recommendations; create and communicate Viking policy in support of standards and expectations to ensure compliance across all locations; serve as company contact for all transportation audits and requests for information; maintain record keeping as required by regulations metrics including DOT, CSA, SAFER and OSHA.

    • Collaborate with the Safety and Compliance Manager along with Human Resources on investigating all accidents which involve Viking Electric operated vehicles designated for delivery. Coordinate with Sonepar and their agents to provide required information in a timely manner and to work towards continuous improvement of accident prevention and avoidance.

    • Coordinate and record the activities of the Viking’s Fleet Review Board, track membership, events, and documentation.

    • Develop and administer the database to track driver med card status, driver qualification files, training, license status and other factors as needed to insure an available and adequate driver pool.

    • Oversee the administration of the driver random drug and alcohol testing program including managing the FMCSA Clearinghouse activities. Monitor DVIR compliance through periodic audits and manage compliance and reporting of safety performance standards including FMCS (CSA programs) and SAFER, administer annual MVR requests and file required DOT forms

    Required Experience

    EDUCATION:

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent business experience plus 5 years specific experience in the area of transportation and workplace safety with progressively increasing responsibility.

    EXPERIENCE:
