In addition to the usual roles and responsibilities of a chaplain, the Supervisor of Spiritual Care Services is responsible for providing day to day oversight of the Spiritual Care staff and program at a specific site within the PIH Health system. Assists the Director of Spiritual Care Services in establishing budget and staffing priorities to address the hospital’s needs for adequate spiritual care coverage. In collaboration with designated leader of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) for the site, organizes and mobilizes the spiritual care staff and volunteers in developing, implementing, and evaluating programs and resources to support the spiritual/religious needs of patients, families and staff. Provides resources which assist PIH Health staff at all levels to create and maintain an atmosphere in which healing and wholeness may be fully realized. Oversees annual performance evaluations and improvement plans, education, and training for spiritual care staff and volunteers. Provides education and resources which support PIH Health policies and practices of patient care that respect a patient’s spiritual/cultural traditions and are consistent with the highest standards of medical ethics. Collaborates with the other leaders of department in support of departmental goals and missional objectives throughout the PIH Health system.

• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing. Facility in public speaking/prayers, leading religious services, and designing training events for volunteers and staff.
• Ability to mobilize, train, and oversee spiritual care volunteers to address the hospital’s needs
• Ability to collaborate effectively with the PIH Health Foundation to raise awareness and generate philanthropic support for spiritual care services
• Professional appearance and demeanor.
• Basic computer skills to use electronic medical documentation software to chart visits, print reports, access documentation from other disciplines and print search results.
• Working knowledge of computer software such as Microsoft Office.
• With consideration to age, employee utilizes the approved process to resolve biophysical, psychological, educational, and environmental needs to patient/significant others when administering care.

Required Experience

Required:

• 3 to 5 years as hospital chaplain or equivalent experience.
• Board Certified Chaplain
• Evidence of annual continuing education and maintaining standing with accrediting professional association/organization.
• Ecumenical / interfaith and multi-faith pastoral experience.
• Evidence of multi-cultural awareness, humility, and curiosity.
• Strong learning posture and commitment to ongoing professional growth
• LA City Fire Card within 6 months of employment (PHGSH only) ****

Preferred:

• Prior supervisory experience with a demonstrated ability to organize staff and programs
• Previous non-profit fundraising experience
• Ordination and endorsement for chaplaincy by denomination.
