    JOB PURPOSE Operate and maintain marine boilers and mechanical equipment such as steam heaters, motors, and pumps to provide power and utilities such as propulsion, light, heat, and power for vessel by performing the following essential functions, equipment may vary based on vessel.

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES  Stand fire room watch during specified periods, observing that required water levels are maintained in boilers within acceptable limits and oil and grease cups are kept full.  Stand watch during specified periods, observing all equipment and engine room mechanics, depending on vessel  Oversee fuel loading and transfers.  Supervise fireman while reading meters and gauges or automatic recording devices at specified intervals to verify operating conditions.  Record data such as temperature of equipment, hours of operation, fuel consumed, pressure, water levels, and boiler load balance.  Adjust manual controls or override automatic controls to bring equipment into recommended or prescribed operating ranges; switch to back-up equipment or systems, or to shut down equipment.  Visually inspect equipment at periodic intervals to detect malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment, or lubrication.  Repair machinery using hand and/or power tools.  Ensure behavior and performance supports the company’s Mission  Follow company values in responding to others in work situations  Meet “standards for service” behaviors  Use recovery steps to respond to others who are dissatisfied  Make hospitality standards an important part of day-to-day duties  Be a STEAM System example for others  Perform other routine duties.  Perform any duties and tasks as deemed necessary by the Chief Engineer.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

     EDUCATION: o HS Diploma or Equivalent Required

     PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION(S) OR LICENSE: o USCG License as a Second Assistant Engineer of Steam Vessels; a minimum of 4000 HP or greater, USCG License as a Second Assistant Engineer depending on vessel. 3rd Assistant Engineer’s license preferred  

    o Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) – if applicable, and/or ability to obtain and maintainoValid MMCoValid Driver’s LicenseoCopy of DD214, if Veteran status

    •SKILLS & ABILITIES:

    o Excellent verbal and written communication skills; must be fluent in English

    o Ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a pleasant and professional manner

    •EXPERIENCE:

    o At least 2 years of experience required (directly related to duties and responsibilities of this position)

    o Cruise industry experience preferred

    •OTHER:

    o Must be at least 21 years of age.

    o Submit to and pass alcohol and drug tests as mandated by the USCG including but not limited to pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion and post-accident/incident testing.

    WORKING CONDITIONS: The majority of work is performed in a Marine environment in both indoor and outdoor conditions with exposure to various temperatures and weather conditions, along with a moderate to loud noise level. The Marine operation is subject to varied wake and motion. Positions both live and work onboard a vessel, on a rotational basis for consecutive port-to-port voyages during the regular season.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to stand and walk on nearly a constant basis; ability to work long hours each day Ability to bend, rotate and reach frequently Ability to carry, push/pull and/or lift materials weighing upwards of 50 lbs Ascending/descending stairs or ladders safely Ability to manipulate/handle/grip materials required to perform job Ability to maneuver through/in/around small and/or confined areas within the vessel Must be able to maintain both static and dynamic standing balance to complete various duties associatedwith job Must be capable of performing emergency duties as listed in the vessel’s station bill Crew bed/bunk equipment are rated for 250 lbs maximum weight capacity per bunk.
