  • Responsibilities

    JOB SUMMARY:    

    Facilitates patient access into outpatient rehab service by gathering the necessary clinical and financial information prior to registration.  Assists with verification and pre/re-certification of insurances to ensure timely and complete payment for services.  Demonstrates a good working knowledge of department’s programs/services to provide accurate information to referral sources and patients.   Ensures patient flow through the registration process is professional, patient friendly, and within established time standards.  Functions as part of the reception/registration team.

     

    MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES/CRITICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. ADMISSIONS - Accurately registers &/or pre-registers patients within departmental guidelines for clinical, demographic and financial/insurance information including avoiding duplicating medical record numbers, verifying the  need for authorization and ensuring accurate diagnosis coding (ICD9/ICD10). Understands how to negotiate on line &/or AVR insurance lines to accurately determine benefit coverage.  Demonstrates excellent knowledge of computer registration system as well as the differences in registration procedures for varying patient types.   

    2. SCHEDULING

    • Schedules initial or follow up appointments as per department guidelines, demonstrating proficiency in computer scheduling system.
    • Creates and/or modifies schedules for staff
    • Provides staff w/timely information on cancellations

     

    1. RECEPTION SUPPORT
    • Greets all patients in a friendly and courteous manner. Escorts therapy patients as needed.
    • Covers reception area phone, checking messages/returning or forwarding calls promptly
    • Provides information to callers, routes calls as appropriate, takes clear and concise messages.

     

    1. CLERICAL DUTIES
    • Sends faxes as needed; assists in maintaining insurance authorization log of activity
    • Receives co-pays, issuing appropriate receipts for cash, check or credit card
    • Assists with other activities as requested i.e. Medicare log,charge entry verification, and gathering records

    Required Skills

    Several years office experience preferably in a health care setting.  Computer proficiency required.  Knowledge of medical terminology a plus.  Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to provide top notch customer service to patients, their family and the public.  Demonstrated capacity to function as a member of a multi-tasking team

    EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

    Two years of college or 2 years prior equivalent experience in a health care setting
