    Company Profile

Grassroots Workshops provides flexible online workshops for teachers. We believe educators should be able to choose what they learn, who they learn from, and how they learn. While most of our customers are based in the United States and Canada, we have trained thousands of educators from dozens of other countries including Spain, Qatar, China, Mexico, Vietnam, Bermuda, and Saudi Arabia.

As Grassroots Workshops grows its workshop offerings, we are scaling our remote team to include additional project managers.

    Responsibilities and Duties

We have created a very detailed list of steps that must be followed to create an online workshop. As a remote project manager, your job will be to make sure that all of these steps are being done by the right people at the right time. This involves working with and managing other team members including the workshop instructor(s), virtual assistants, other project managers, and company president.

Initially your role will be to shadow a senior project manager, observe the processes we use, and learn how everything comes together. After this onboarding period, you will take over new and existing instructor relationships with the goal of ensuring that all stakeholders know their responsibilities and that all work has been completed according to plan.

This job will require significant technology usage including the Asana project management software and Grassroots Workshops’ custom website infrastructure. There will be several hundred little steps that need to be managed and verified.

If keeping track of details like these sounds daunting, then this position is likely not a good fit for you. Additionally, you must be a lifelong learner. There will always be more we need to know to stay competitive, so if reading/listening to books/podcasts/blog posts is not something you enjoy, this is likely not a good fit for you.

    Availability

This part-time position may be done remotely from anywhere in the world, as long as your schedule is flexible around United States morning, afternoon, and evening hours. Time commitments are cyclical and build up towards workshops that happen in the Fall (near September), Spring (near February), and Summer (near April).

Planning phases for each new workshop begin approximately nine to twelve months before the workshop begins. Planning for repeat workshops begins three to four months ahead of the workshop beginning.

For part-time employees, there will be approximately 1 to 5 hours of work per week per instructor in the months leading up to the registration period. In the final one or two months ahead of each registration period (Fall, Spring, and Summer) this may increase to 3 to 10 hours of work per week per instructor. Accordingly, the total hours you work will vary based on how many instructors you support and how much support your instructor needs (for example instructors repeating a workshop tend to need significantly less support than those running a workshop for the first time). You may also have other mutually agreed upon work that is not related to supporting instructors

Also note, that our instructors are often full-time educators, so you may find that the instructors are busy during the day (generally United States time zones) and can only work/collaborate outside of standard school day hours. So, flexible availability is needed. Unexpected issues may (very rarely) require time during the weekends. Once registration for a workshop ends, there will be little to no work until the next workshop planning cycle begins.

So, while you may have other responsibilities and clients, it is essential that you can be 100% dedicated to these projects during each launch period.

    Onboarding

Ideally, you will begin your position by collaborating with the company president and senior project manager during the first quarter of 2020. By shadowing and asking questions, you should understand what needs to be done so that you can replicate and refine the process.

    Benefits

Compensation is $30-$35/hour based on experience. Additional benefits for part-time employees include a SIMPLE IRA retirement savings plan, a monthly stipend to offset costs of maintaining a home office, and an annual professional development stipend to support your life-long learning. Every employee is crucial for the success of our company. We strive to make this organization a dynamic and rewarding place in which to work – where we don’t necessarily want to be right, we just want to get it right!
