    SUMMARY:

    Camp Curiosity offers students, from kindergarten through 8th grade, hands-on fun, one-of-a-kind experiences, STEM fundamentals, and unforgettable memories. We believe that informal STEM education will cultivate creative, innovative, and critical thinkers for the 21st century.

    The Camp Curiosity Operations Assist supports the Camp Operations Lead for all program, staff, and camper needs. The Camp Operations Assist should be passionate about providing an engaging STEM experience for campers kindergarten through 8th grade and have a proactive and problem solving mindset.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The Ops Assist and Ops Lead will coordinate completing the following responsibilities:

    • Working understanding of curriculum and logistics for GLSC and virtual @Home camps
    • Setting up and cleaning up instructional areas
    • Working with the supply team to ensure supplies are complete and ready
    • Leading camper check in/check out
    • Answering radio calls from staff and assisting instructors as needed
    • Running supplies as needed
    • Handing out lunches and supervising campers during lunch and recess
    • Establishing high expectations for performance and engagement amongst all camp staff
    • Floating into classrooms as needed to help with activities
    • Reporting to appropriate STEM Learning staff about any issues that arise with camp staff or campers
    • Conducting him/herself with high levels of professionalism and appropriateness at all times
    • Creating and maintaining a positive and fun culture amongst GLSC staff

    WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    Please note that this position requires working outdoors for prolonged periods in varied weather conditions, frequently climbing narrow stairwells and occasionally lifting heavy objects such as supply bins and demonstration props.  It may also include working with chemicals and gases including, but not limited to, liquid nitrogen, dry ice, nitric acid, hydrogen, and oxygen.  Training will be provided.

    EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:

    • High school diploma required
    • Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office
    • Must be energized and excited to share the experience of science with children entering kindergarten through 8th grades.
    • Excellent verbal communication skills.

    Additional Information

    Rate - $14/hour

    EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

    Camp Curiosity runs at the following locations:

    • Downtown (GLSC): 6/7/2021-8/20/2021
    • Both virtual and in-person camps are offered.

    Candidates must be available for 8 hours between 8am-5:30 pm for majority of the summer. 8-hour shift times vary depending on daily needs.
