    Job Description

    Summary:

    Working collaboratively with the STEM Learning Department, Camp Curiosity Instructors will facilitate creative, interactive, hands-on instruction for youth through our Camp Curiosity educational program. Camp Curiosity Instructors are primarily responsible for leading the curriculum-based activities and ensuring that activities are presented in an age-appropriate manner. Camp Curiosity Instructors will work closely with Camp Curiosity Counselors to ensure that campers have a positive and fun experience while at camps.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Facilitating multi-grade STEM activities for campers in K-6th grade

    • Creating fun, interactive, and effective STEM learning environments for all campers

    • Prepping for all lesson plans, including reading curriculum in advance, and creating an immersive classroom environment

    • Establishing high expectations for performance and engagement

    • Conducting themself with high levels of professionalism and appropriateness at all times

    • Maintaining classroom safety and behavior management

    • Setting up and cleaning up instructional areas

    • Communicating with the Leadership Team about camper concerns in a timely manner

    • Providing operational support during camper check in/check out

    • Providing program feedback to the Leadership Team

    • Observing any other established program standards, policies and procedures

    • Completing online abuse prevention training prior to first day on-site

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    Work Environment/Physical Demands:

    Please note that this position requires working outdoors for prolonged periods in varied weather conditions, frequently climbing narrow stairwells, and occasionally lifting heavy objects such as supply bins and demonstration props. It may also include working with chemicals and gases including but not limited to liquid nitrogen, dry ice, nitric acid, hydrogen, and oxygen. Training will be provided.

    Education and Work Experience Qualifications:

    • Teaching experience required in either formal or informal settings

    • Active (Pre-K-8) Teacher’s license preferred

    • Must be at least 18 years of age

    Additional Information

    • Rate - $18 - $20/hour
    • Incentive Program:
      • Employees who work 5 weeks of the summer will be eligible for a $100 bonus.
      • Employees who work 10 weeks of the summer will be eligible for a $200 bonus

    Expected Hours of Work:

    Camp Curiosity in-house summer camps are week-long camps and are offered downtown at GLSC from the week of June 3rd through the week of August 12th. Candidates must also be available for one day of in-person training (9 am – 4:30 pm) either May 31st or June 1st. Camps will be held on both June 19th and July 4th.

    Candidates must be available from 8am - 4pm for at least one full week of programming.
