    The Role

    We are looking for a talented and high-integrity Design Lead to oversee our design team. In this role, the Design Lead will both oversee the Design department, including maintaining the design schedule and backlog, managing the Design team, and owning all process improvement for the design department, as well as managing their own portfolio of clients, owning the client relationship from the moment a client signs a design agreement until the construction contract is signed. This role reports directly to the owner / CEO.

    Salary/Benefits

    Annual compensation of $80,000 - $120,000 per year based on experience, including quarterly profit sharing

    Responsibilities

    Preliminary Design

    Get to know client through introductory design meeting and review of design survey

    Document and draw existing conditions for project (including taking measurements of existing space)

    Draw conceptual design

    Lead design review meeting with client to align on conceptual design and discuss any changes

    Final Design

    Conduct meeting with estimator to introduce them to project and give them the information they need to complete an accurate estimate of the project cost

    Provide materials samples and pricing to client as needed to help aid in selections

    Document all selections and required items to be ordered in project management / procurement software

    Review final construction contract with sales team to ensure that all scope items and selections are appropriately accounted for prior to contract signing

    Preconstruction

    Create building plans for project including floor plans, elevations, perspectives, schedules, and install details

    Conduct handoff meeting with Lead Carpenter assigned to project to ensure complete knowledge transfer of project scope and details

    Attend site meeting with Lead Carpenter, Project Manager, and subcontractors to ensure seamless handoff from design to construction

    Construction

    Assist with any change orders that require additional design time during construction

    Conduct 2 walkthroughs / check-ins with client (50% completion and 100% completion)

    General / Department Management

    Oversee other Designers and Design Assistants within your team, assigning projects, conducting performance reviews, and serving as the first point of contact for issue resolution on a daily basis as it relates to design

    Manage design schedule and backlog, partnering with Production Manager to ensure appropriate balance of projects and timelines

    Communicating with Sales on a weekly basis to assist in future planning

    Who You Are

You must be an ambitious, organized, detail-oriented, self-motivated hard worker with a knack for design, communication, and relationship building. As the primary point of contact for our clients through the entire design phase, this person must exemplify what it means to be a part of the GreatHouse family.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Bachelor’s Degree or Certificate in interior design or a related field

    Minimum 5 years professional work experience in interior design specifically within the construction industry, ideally residential remodeling

    Proficient in Chief Architect or similar CAD software (Revit, SketchUp, CAD, etc.)

    Proficient in Microsoft Suite of products

    Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

    Detail oriented with exceptional organizational skills

    A self-starter who enjoys working on a team and can have fun while working hard

    Must maintain professional image, demonstrate high level of integrity

    Non-smoking, we also perform drug testing and have a zero-tolerance policy on drug use

    Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

    Excellent references from both current and previous employers

    Nice to Haves:

    Experience in structural design (roofs, decks, additions, etc.) or a degree in architecture / engineering

    Chief Architect wizard
