Education Coordinator
General Purpose: Responsible for the implementation and management of the Education and Early Childhood Development service area for Early Head Start and Head Start in accordance with the Head Start Performance Standards. Responsible for assisting in the oversight of designated site. Works in conjunction with the HS Director, Education Specialist, Education Coordinator, and program specialists.
Qualifications/Requirements: Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field and at least one year experience in an early childhood program required. Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills; advanced level computer skills; and a high level of interpersonal skills.
Salary Range: $35,500 per year
Essential Duties
Child Development Services
Administer the Head Start/Early Head Start Program in accordance with the appropriate Head Start Performance Standards and applicable State of Texas and Federal child care regulations.
Administer classroom lesson plans and curriculum for inclusion of outcome measures, individualization, literacy, culturally diverse and age appropriate activities.
Acts as a resource and content area expert for staff and parents in the area of child development and education.
Conducts training to address training and professional development needs and requirements.
Assists with organizing staffings with appropriate classroom and service area staff to review and collaborate on individual children’s cases.
Attends and participates in IEP meetings in absence of the Teacher.
Completes and documents a minimum of two classroom observations monthly on each Teaching team.
Assists in classrooms, as needed
Program Design
Monitors purchasing of materials and equipment for classroom use.
Planning
Coordinate cross-service area activities with other service areas.
Participates in group and individual program planning meetings.
Communication
Ensures that parent is receiving valuable, routine communication from Teaching staff.
Work Environment:
The Education Coordinator performs work inside and outside in a variety of settings to include: school building, office, parent home, and community environments with other Head Start employees, parents and children. The setting requires verbal and face-to-face contact with the community, parents, children and other staff members. The Education Coordinator performs most work during weekday hours.
Physical Requirements:
Requires assisting in the evacuation of children from a building.
Occasional bending, stooping, or lifting up to 50 lbs. is required
Ability to climb stairs
Ability to travel between 5 buildings or more.
Regular repetitive motion with hands, computer keyboarding, phone, filing.
Regular sitting, working at computer keyboard and desk, standing to file misc. documents in filing cabinet.
Mental / Reasoning Requirements:
ECE Instructional Methods, including age appropriate curriculum principles and child development
Assessment Methods
Time Management and prioritizing
Requires complex reading and writing skills
Intermediate level skills in statistical analysis of data.
Ability to make independent decisions/judgments about daily operations as related to position functions.
Ability to complete forms accurately
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
