Job Description

The Accounting Specialist is an integral part of the finance department.  Under supervision of the Finance Manager, performs professional accounting work; maintains financial records; prepares fiscal reports, reconciliations, and forecasts; implements and maintains departmental accounting policies and procedures; assists in budget development and control; and performs related work as required. 

Specific functions include:  processing bi-weekly payroll including time and attendance, deductions, reimbursements, and manual payments consistent with federal and state wage and hour laws; assisting with enrollment and management of all employee benefit programs such as medical, disability, retirement, and other benefits; maintaining all personnel files, payroll related reports, and other mandatory documentation; managing accounts receivable including invoice processing, collections, report generation, and record retention.

Ability to interpret and follow regulations, process documents and reports timely and accurately, and retain excellent records is essential to the role. Experience with payroll processing software, Excel software and HRIS software is required. Effective communication with coworkers, vendors, and customers is essential.

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business or a related field.  Five years of governmental finance experience.  Possession of a valid driver’s license authorizing operation of a motor vehicle in Illinois.  Must satisfactorily meet and maintain STA and CHRC background check requirements.  Any combination of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements will be considered.
