Kitchen/Classroom Support
Green Tree Early Childhood Center is a federally sponsored, non-profit, NAEYC accredited childcare center serving children 2 months through 5 years. The Center follows a child-centered philosophy and play-based curriculum and boasts a committed parent community, including a parent run board of directors, and long term dedicated staff. Located in downtown Seattle in an environmentally friendly building, the Center has a covered outdoor playground, modern facilities, and abundant natural light. Green Tree is within walking distance of many commuting and transportation options, including light rail, the Seattle ferry terminal, West Seattle water taxi, and major regional and express bus routes, and has a parking garage on site.
As demand for childcare in downtown Seattle continues to rebound, the Center aims to gradually return to pre-pandemic staffing and student enrollment levels. As such, we are seeking additional staff for full and part time roles in all of our classrooms. Immediate start dates are available for qualified candidates.
The ideal candidate for our Kitchen/Classroom Support Person will enjoy time each day in a kitchen environment in addition to daily coverage in the classrooms of children aged 2 months through 5 years old. This position is great for a person who enjoys variety in their day and the ability to experience multiple classrooms as part of their weekly routine.
SPECIFICALLY, QUALIFIED CANDIDATES SHOULD:
• Demonstrate experience, flexibility, and enthusiasm working with young children (i.e., 2 months to 5 years)
• Communicate effectively and relate sensitively to both children and adults (i.e., other teachers as well as parents)
• Be proficient in oral and written English language
• Demonstrate the willingness to comply with performance standards which may include: personal responsibility, client/customer service-orientation, embracing a team player orientation, and maintaining a professional demeanor
• Be registered in MERIT and have a current portable background clearance
• Pass a Federal Background clearance check
• Show proof of current negative FDA-approved TB test or other appropriate documentation signed within the last twelve months by a licensed healthcare professional
• Show MMR vaccination documentation or proof of immunity from measles
• Have a current CPR and First Aid and Blood Borne Pathogens certificate within 6 months of employment (maintain current certificate during employment)
• Demonstrate a willingness to work as a team member within a specific classroom as well as center-wide
• Show a desire to grow and learn as a professional in the early childhood education field
• Provide documentation of being vaccinated for COVID-19 (as required by Washington state for childcare workers and the federal government for staff that work in federal buildings)
Responsibilities for the kitchen support portion of this position include:
· Receiving the prepared breakfast and lunch each day
· Setting up classroom meal carts with table service and meal components
· Preparing a light afternoon snack using a prepared list or your own creativity
· Wash dishes after each meal using two-step method and sanitizing machine
· Working with admin on a weekly or bi-weekly shopping list for afternoon snack and misc. meal prep items
· Maintaining cleanliness of kitchen area and carts
· Following food safety requirements (Food Handler’s Permit required)
Responsibilities for the classroom support portion of this position include:
· Timely room support in each classroom for team meeting meetings (one per day)
· Other classroom support as approved (walks, planning time, conference or conference prep, etc.)

COVID-19 considerations:
In accordance with King County current guidelines for early childhood centers, Green Tree conducts daily temperature/health checks for staff, parents, and children entering the center; masks are required for all adults and children over 2 years; limited group size; additional cleaning; and high quality ventilation in the facility. All staff and eligible children are fully vaccinated for the virus causing COVID-19 disease.
