    PATH in Ethiopia is currently implementing various high impact projects with the aim of saving and improving the lives of the most vulnerable and underserved women and children in the country.

     

    PATH Ethiopia seeks to recruit qualified and experienced Social, And Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) Advisor for the Targeted and Tailored Support To Increase COVID-19 Vaccination. This project will support the government of Ethiopia to fully vaccinate 70 percent of the total population.

     

    The USAID targeted and tailored COVID-19 vaccination SBCC advisor will be based in PATH country office and is responsible to coordinate the overall communication and demand generation activities of the project.  The SBCC advisor will report to the project director based in Addis Ababa. S/he will be working closely with the project leadership team based at PATH country office and provide overall technical support at national and subnational level on advocacy, social mobilization, and program communication activities of the project.

     

    SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

     

    • Lead and coordinate development of gender- sensitive, context tailored and inclusive SBCC strategy and interventions in COVID-19 mass vaccination that fit for targeted group
    • Coordinate and facilitate targeted advocacy workshops, social mobilization, and engagement of stakeholders
    • Provide overall technical oversee on the implementation of gender- sensitive and context tailored communication strategies in COVID-19 mass vaccination project
    • Coordinate and provide technical support on communication and demand generation activities to regional and zonal project staff
    • Support national Communication TWG to develop plans and activities to promote COVID-19 vaccination in low performing communities, IDPs sites, refugee camps and special target groups to increase demand and uptake for COVID-19 vaccine
    • Provide support to revise, implement, and update national demand generation strategy with approaches, plans and activities geared towards generating demand for COVID-19 mass vaccination
    • Coordinate with the government and media agencies at the national and subnational level on regular public opinion monitoring and social listening particularly on rumors, fake news, media coverage on AEFI cases and misinformation around COVID-19 vaccines and broader immunization services
    • Coordinate monitoring and evaluation activities for demand generation and risk communication activities for the COVID-19 mass vaccine delivery including conducting rapid assessment for awareness, acceptance, hesitancy, and trust around the COVID-19 vaccine project implementation regions.
    • Closely work with national and regional project team to document lessons learned, success stories and best practices.
    • Conduct regular field monitoring and evaluation missions to Regions, Zones and Woredas to oversee implementation progresses and quality of project implementation.
    • And any other activity as requested by the supervisor

     

    Required Skills Required Experience

     

    • Master’s degree or higher in public health communications, and or other relevant behavioral/social science field.
    • Minimum ten (10) years’ experience in public health programming, policy or research, with at least five (5) years’ experience in the area of immunization and maternal/child health programs.
    • Formal training in and demonstrated understanding of theories and frameworks relating to individual behavior change and broader social responses, the evidence base for social and behavioral/communications interventions and best practices and familiarity with the current SBCC literature is preferred.
    • Hands-on experience on designing, planning, implementing, and evaluating SBCC intervention approaches that fit for targeted groups
    • Experience on designing IEC/BCC materials, guidelines, key messages, training materials and monitoring tools.
    • Knowledge and experience on testing interventions approaches, writing success story, documenting lessons learned and best practices
    • Proven experience on mentoring, and supportive supervision and feedback mechanisms
    • Proven ability to create and maintain effective working relationships with government, partners, and international organizations at various levels.
    • Skilled in successfully working with geographically dispersed teams and working in a multi-cultural environment.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team, including cross-cultural teams.
    • Excellent analytical, written, and oral communication skills.
    • Ability to travel to regions, estimated to be about 40%.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    • Work is generally performed within a manufacturing environment subjected to temperatures of cold and warm along with wearing the proper PPE, with standard office equipment available along with plant manufacturing environment.
    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, bend, walk, use hands or fingers, talk, hear, feel objects, tools, or controls; may be required to lift up to 50 pounds. Vision abilities include close vision to a computer screen.
