    POSITION SUMMARY: 

    This position will perform a full range of technical work including writing test request, draft DVP&R documents, develop components, complete DFMEA studies, supplier development activities, following a stage-gate development process. This position also leads empirical investigations resolving component level root-cause analysis.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

    • Plans, conducts and coordinates a broad range of complex engineering technical assignments requiring an in-depth knowledge of foundation brake hardware and validation techniques including laboratory and metal fatigue bench test.
    • DVP&R & DFMEA creation and execution.
    • Lead C&S 8D root cause analysis. May handle overflow ADB/FDB development projects as needed.
    • Has appreciable latitude for independent action and decision. 
    • Position is non-supervisory.
    • Regarded as a foundation brake hardware technical expert in the area of design and validation.
    • May be required to direct and coordinate test activities on specific assignments.

     

    KNOWLEDGE:

    • Demonstrated problem-solving skills in a team environment 
    • DFMEA and DVP&R processes 
    • Confident with technical presentations to internal and external customers & suppliers.
    • Knowledge of air brake systems a plus 
    • Knowledge of GD&T
    • Strong Microsoft Project skills and considerable experience with managing timing of the product development cycle

    EDUCATION:

    • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering is required
    • M.S. in Mechanical Engineering is preferred

    Required Skills

     

    • Effective at communicating complex design principles with a variety of audience including customers and suppliers
    • Self-starter/self-motivating with a bias for action and results driven. Detail oriented and driven to complete assigned tasks on time 
    • Capable of multi-tasking and adapting to changing priorities
    • Strong problem solving skills
    • Solid analytical skills 
    • Good organizational and project management skills
    • Strong knowledge of the material properties of a variety of steels used for machined and stamped components

    Required Experience

     

    • 5 years minimum in automotive or commercial vehicle product development team with a tier 1 or OEM environment.
    • Six Sigma experience is strongly preferred.
    • Experience with foundation brake hardware design within the automotive industry or commercial vehicle industry is highly preferred. 
    • 8D process experience and demonstrated implementation of PCA solutions will be highly regarded.
