  • Responsibilities

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Supervises staff to ensure the objectives are met and work processes are continuously improved. Assigns and prioritizes work, reviews progress and evaluates results. Lead engineering projects and assist in problem solving activities. Develops engineering processes, procedures, methods, and standards. Mentors engineers and other technical staff.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Supervise testing, product engineering, and design staff (including performance appraisals, time sheets, vacations and other administrative tasks).
    • Leads team in achieving work unit objectives.
    • Assigns and prioritizes work in conjunction with Corporate’s Engineering Manager.
    • Conducts performance reviews interviews and makes hiring recommendations.
    • Performs and supervises tasks and Project Planning.
    • Designs and implements policies and procedures in engineering discipline.
    • Assists in developing engineering standards.
    • Monitors and drives Engineering Process Improvements.
    • Trains and provides work direction, mentors, and addresses any employee issues.
    • Generate procedures and maintain records in compliance with IATF16949 procedures (e.g. gage’s calibrations, annual product quality audits).
    • Completes project work as a member of the product team.

    Required Skills

    KNOWLEDGE:

    • Knowledgeable in engineering concepts/fundamentals, practices, and procedures.
    • Knowledgeable in engineering design processes throughout product life cycle (concept, development, in production support, end of life)
    • Electrical, Mechanical, and/or Control Systems background.
    • Automotive and or commercial vehicle mechanical design, hardware, and/or control systems knowledge.
    • Familiar with system level design, incorporating both electrical and mechanical components.
    • Knowledgeable in engineering design validation (mechanical and electrical testing) processes.
    • CAD Design and GD&T experience strongly preferred

    SKILLS:

    • Highly skilled in people supervision.
    • Highly skilled in project tracking.
    • Capable of managing multiple projects and priorities.
    • Drives critical milestones on assigned projects
    • Excellent problem-solving skills.
    • Able to work in a cross-functional team in a dynamic working environment.
    • Self-starter.
    • Ability to influence others in positive ways and work under conditions of changing priorities and work assignments.
    • Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills
    • Capable of keeping others informed of activities
    • Hands-on: willing to work on mechanical issues, wiring issues, and software issues
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project

    Required Experience

    EXPERIENCE:

    • 5 years minimum of related experience; automotive environment preferred.
    • Experience with manufacturing processes (e.g. die casting, injection molding, stamping, assembly).
    • DFMEA responsibility.
    • Experience leading DOE’s, tolerance analysis, root cause analysis.
    • Experience and familiarity with FEA processes and technical reports is strongly preferred.
    • Experience in knowledge transfer (mentorship) to peers.
    • Experience in proposing new technologies and setting up new equipment in testing laboratories is highly preferred.
