    ABOUT THE ROLE Boston University Financial Assistance seeks an Assistant Director. This Assistant Director works as a part of a team to provide support to the operations and systems area of the office, and is responsible for hiring, training, and supervising 2-3 student employees. The position is full-time and requires occasional weekend assignments. The Assistant Director works closely with colleagues within Financial Assistance, as well as with other University offices including Admissions, the Office of the University Registrar, the International Students & Scholars Office, and Information Services & Technology. Outside of the University, the Assistant Director works with the federal government’s Departments of Education and Homeland Security to process federal financial aid applications.

    The Assistant Director’s primary duties include:

    • Assisting with problem resolution to complete application requirements for federal and University aid;
    • Testing upgrades and changes to the University’s student information system to ensure integrity and compliance with federal regulations and University policies, as well as overall quality control;
    • Reviewing exception reports;
    • Managing data processing for incoming & outgoing mail (including broadcast emails);
    • Assisting with managing the aid packaging system, and;
    • At certain points in the annual admissions cycle, counseling prospective applicants and their families about applying for financial aid and other financing options.

     

    ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION Boston University Financial Assistance is part of the Enrollment & Student Administration unit (ENSA). BU Financial Assistance plays a critical role in ENSA’s mission; enrolling and retaining students, securing external funding and generating tuition revenue through strategic discounting. BU Financial Assistance provides important services through timely and accurate review of financial aid applications, awarding of financial aid funds, processing of loans, and by providing counseling to students and parents on the financial aid process, programs and related issues.

    An earned bachelor’s degree is a requirement for this position. Ideally, we are seeking a candidate who:

    • Has at least one year of previous experience in a similar role;
    • Possesses strong analytical and organizational skills;
    • Is detail-oriented;
    • Is an effective problem solver and communicator;
    • Is able to work well in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment;
    • Has prior supervisory experience preferred;
    • Has prior knowledge of federal and state financial aid policies and procedures, including familiarity with federal verification requirements preferred, and;
    • Has experience with PeopleSoft Campus Solutions, or a similar student information platform preferred.
